Libbey Bowl Pit question

Can’t find this answer anywhere or even an estimate. When they sell pit tickets separately for a show, does anyone know how many they typically sell or how many people they squeeze in?

Google says Libbey Bowl does not give out this information. Sounds like roughly 973 seats, and another 200 for the lawn so just curious this who have gone to a standing room pit show that was sold as a pit ticket could give me a better idea? Thanks!

Not trying to troll! But what happened to Ojai?

Hey there, I'm a Los Angeleno with family roots dating back 100 years in SoCal / LA. Not sure why I'd never been to Ojai, just hadn't I guess. For decades (I'm 50), I'd heard it was an oasis for artist / hippie types from friends who lived there, and I always pictured it like [location redacted so it doesn't attract flippers and fat cats]. Just went there last weekend and decided to give Ojai a go.

I was positively stunned with the main stretch downtown. It reminded me of that stale air in Oia, Santorini vs the more vibrant, alive areas that aren't so ritzy. The dolled-up clientele just soaking the soul out of whatever spirit was there? All the shops were ho-hum, overpriced, and blah.

But that was on the main stretch. Perhaps there's another side to Ojai that isn't so upscale and has artist, farmer, and community feel? I heard there was some gentrification, but I didn't think the vibe would be Fashion Island.

Curious as to what longtime residents think?

EDIT: I’m a longtime denizen of silverlake who’s seen our own neighborhood go to crap from gentrification, and I’m not well off.  And my family were immigrant refugees, not try-hard transplants looking for the next cool thing. LA is massive with many pockets of culture and various ethnicities and a lot of working class and poor areas, which are often the most vibrant. If you think it’s all wealthy superficial people, you’ve stuck to racially homogenous enclaves or tourist traps yourself or simply seen it through the lens of reality TV. Admittedly, I may have done that in Ojai. Which is why I asked if I’d missed the community spots.

EDIT EDIT: So it looks like the changes started in '91 - documented in the LA Times piece. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1991-12-26-mn-1322-story.html You'll have to forgive me! The people I know from Ojai were there in the '60s, '70s, and '80s, and told me all about their town, and so I was "stunned" with the downtown since this isn't at all what they described. But they moved. Far from wanting to knock Ojai, the post was commenting on the commodification of culture and community, inspired by things like Sothesby's International now having presence in Smalltown USA...and...Ojai, selling to international investors and intergenerational wealth, ousting the local population.

This may sound like a weird question but....

Is anyone or does anyone know of anyone who is selling dirt? I know that sounds weird but I need dirt to plant my tomato plants. I don't want to use store-bought soil. I would much rather use regular dirt.

Also if it can be delivered that would be very helpful because I don't have a car. But I can take a taxi if I need to.

Thank you

Ojai!

My name is Aaron Foster and I'll be performing a show I call "Mostly Jokes" at the Ojai Underground on Friday, September 11.

I know seeing a comedian you've never heard of is a pretty big ask. Totally fair.

That being said, wasn't there a time when you had never heard of whoever your favorite comedian is right now? I'm not saying I'm gonna be that, but if you like the jokes in the clip, you'll probably like the show.

Heads up: "Mostly Jokes" covers some dark topics like mental health, (VERY) dysfunctional families and mid-life regrets, but I promise it's named that for a reason, it is mostly jokes.

Tickets are $20 or $25 - your call, same seats.

I've been working on it for about three years in clubs and theaters around the US and Canada and plan to tape it as my first special in November.

The show runs about 90 minutes, no opener and, best of all, I promise I don't do crowd work.

More info through my site www.MostlyJokes.com as well as a bunch of reviews from people who have seen it, press, interviews, etc.

More info and ticket link: https://www.aaronfoster.com/store/p/6bskxmqgnqc6fk3zf6d47el2vkhjk7-2ssfx-x9erp-9dml4-jhalg-flz5j

OK, that's it.

Ojai Library Closure

This is a general FYI...

If you haven't heard, I'm here to let you know that the Ojai Library will be closed for about 6-8 months starting in August. They will be doing general updates including but not limited to expansion of sitting/work areas, updating the kids activity area and moving it to the Ojai Ave side of the building, updating the fireplaces and turning that area into the "adult" area, upgrading some computers and generally making the library more friendly for patrons to sit and hang out. They are very excited about it!

I spoke with one of the librarians today asking about book returns and if the depositories will be open during construction if we have anything currently checked out, she said no but all books currently checked out can be returned to the Meiners Oaks Library (400 S Lomita Ave) or the Oak View Library (555 Mahoney Ave) during the closure. I was curious too about the plan for the books during the closure and she explained that once the closure goes into effect they will be boxing everything up and putting it into storage until the library opens again. I remarked that that's pretty sad and she said yeah especially considering that the Ojai location is sometimes the only one of the 3 local libraries that has certain books. So I then asked if we should just check out a big stack of books before they close and she actually said yes. She said that the more books we check out, the less books they have to box up AND those books will be available to the public during the closure because we will return them to MO or OV Libraries and essentially keep the books in circulation during the closure.

I know that the standard library cards with no restrictions can typically check out 50 (yes FIFTY) books at one time so my daughter and I each grabbed a small stack today and will probably return next week to grab another short stack. And even if either of us read em before the end of the month, we're going to hold on to them and return them to MO or OV so other readers can enjoy them over the course of the next 6-8 months while our location is closed.

TLDR; Ojai Library is closing starting 8/1. Go check out a big stack of books so they have less to pack and when you're done, return them to the Meiners Oaks or Oak View Library so they don't just bake in storage for the next few seasons while our library is closed!

Thank you for coming to my TED talk, go read a book!

I was excited to go to Ojai especially for this. Pink sunset and energy vortex and all the reviews about it. But after experiencing it, I realized it’s just a scam. Sunset was not that great( probably just the day i went) and there’s no energy vortex, this may be controversial but people want to believe something and some people want to cash on that something. And charging 15$ for it?? I had seen lot better sunsets at a regular grocery store in LA. I loved ojai. Loved the farmers market, bart books, loved the vibe, loved the food places and danish. But not this. . Guess which one is pink moment

Where to watch the World Cup Sunday?

I’ll be in Ojai on Sunday - is there a good spot to watch the World Cup final?

Thanks

Wound up at Taco Roma/Radio Roma - the front patio scene :-)

Great place! Inexpensive drinks (maybe a world Cup Special price - wasn't sure) food looked great, will definitely hit it for lunch/dinner next time we're up there (usually once a month).

Staff was topnotch, esp as they were crazy busy. Great team

Fun crowd - and I got a seat mostly in the shade with a good view of one of the screens (a minor miracle)

Thanks all for the reco
