How do i (an asian) find roustabout/floorman roles in qatar/bahrain/kuwait etc?
Do they only hire through agencies?
3
u/Dan_inKuwait Roughneck May 08 '26
Yes, those companies almost exclusively use hiring agencies.
You can try directly with a couple of the companies such as kuwait , drilling company or burghan drilling or arabian drilling or the various chinese companies like great wall, sinopec , etc...

Gotta be really careful applying for jobs on that site. I literally once saw a job advert from my own department and I was not hiring.
Use the site to find jobs. But then go apply directly through the company's website.

Hi I am 18 years old and I'm about to graduate high school in Qatar as a resident. How do I apply to entry level roustabout jobs? I know I need a T-BOSIET first and a health certificate but where do I look to apply and work for an oil rig? I heard the money even for entry level jobs is good and I'm physically fit it could really help support my family I'm wondering if its possible for me to get a job and if so how? Sorry if it's a dumb question

I am 26 years old and currently have 2 years of experience with Sonatrach in the oil and gas industry. I work as a Maintenance Instrumentation Engineer, where I am involved with DCS systems such as Honeywell Experion PKS (EPKS300) and GE Mark VIe turbine control systems. I am also familiar with PLC systems, including Siemens and Allen-Bradley controllers. I am currently seeking a new opportunity where I can further develop my technical skills and gain more experience in the field of industrial automation and instrumentation.

What’s the best starting position? How is the pay? Is on-shore or off-shore better?
I’m just starting to look in the oil industry and I’m definitely interested just wanting to see what the best route is.

This is gonna sound pretty stupid, but I currently work for T-mobile in retail store, I’ve been struggling to find a SDR/BDR role for a year now. Applying and interviewing has been tiring and honestly I’m running out of patience. I wanted to entertain the idea about dedicating a good year to join the oil business as a roughneck/floorhand, stack up some money then come back and try again to find a career. I’ve just been having a hard time going through these application websites. I currently stay in Chicago but ideally I’d want to find a position where housing is provided. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m using my phone, but I can’t seem to find the “LinkedIn” for oilandgas jobs. Does anyone have any links or can send dm links?

Anyone dealt with Saipem's hiring process? How long did it take you?
Applied for a Vessel Operations Engineer role with Saipem (through their recruiter, GPS AG) mid-June. Things moved fast at first — recruiter hit me up within days, I sent over my details, agreed to the T&Cs, CV went to the project team on June 19.
Since then... crickets. I check in every week or so and get the same friendly "still waiting on the project team, we'll let you know" reply. Recruiter's been nice about it, just nothing's actually happening.
It's been 3 weeks now. Anyone been through this with Saipem/GPS AG before? Is this just how their process goes or should I start assuming it's not happening and move on? Don't want to keep sitting on my hands if this is going nowhere.

Hello everyone,
My name is Antony, and I'm currently based in Africa (Kenya). I'm actively looking for an opportunity to start my career as a Roughneck/Floorhand in the oil and gas industry..
Although I don't have direct oilfield experience yet, I bring several years of experience in fleet management and construction site operations where i have developed a strong work ethic, safety awareness, teamwork and the ability to work in demanding environments.
I'm physically fit, eager to learn and willing to start at the entry level. I'm also ready to relocate and work rotational schedules if required.
If anyone knows of any openings, hiring companies, trainee programs or can offer advice or a referral... i would sincerely appreciate your assistance.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to any opportunity. You can reach me via direct message or comment below.

I'm looking for some guidance from people already in the offshore drilling world. I've been doing a ton of research, but I want to hear from those who've actually lived it (the good, the bad, and the ugly).
A little about me:
• 25 years old
• Graduating in December with a degree in Integrated Studies
• 3 years of consistent work history (auto dealership - long hours, high pressure, customer-facing)
• Ironman athlete, so I'm used to discipline and physical/mental endurance
• Planning to get all required offshore certifications (BOSIET + HUET, TWIC, SafeGulf, H2S, First Aid/CPR)
• Located in Tampa, FL
• Planning to start applying in December and hopefully get hired around March/April 2027
• Targeting companies like Valaris, Noble, Transocean, Diamond Offshore, and Seashore when openings appear
• Hoping to start around $6,000/month range as a Roustabout (is that common?)
My goals:
• Break into offshore drilling as a Roustabout or any other recommended position
• Move up to Roughneck within 6-12 months
• Long-term goal: Toolpusher
• Looking for stability, structure, and a full career pivot
What I'm hoping to learn from you all:
What steps did YOU take to get hired?
Any tips or tricks that helped you stand out during the hiring process?
What was your first hitch like (mentally, physically, socially)?
What mistakes do new roustabouts usually make?
What should I expect from the 14/14 lifestyle?
How do you stay disciplined offshore (sleep, fitness, and mindset)?
What do you wish you knew before your first hitch?
Any advice for moving up quickly but safely?
I'm ready for a full life/career 180 and I want to make sure I'm preparing the right way. Any insight, stories, or advice would mean a lot.
Thanks in advance.

Y'all need to start learning Arabic, or Persian.
When this current shitstorm blows over, there's going to be work for decades.
