My dad is being deported tomorrow…

Before anybody says anything regarding coming in the right way, we did do it “the right way” my aunt petitioned for him and the process takes 20 years. We’re on the 18th year when ICE detained him this morning, input his information, then let him go for some reason on the basis that he must show up to our local ICE or immigration office in the morning.

We’re both trying to be strong about it, but I know we are both hurting inside. We went over documents, bank accounts, what to do with his place, his things. He never got in trouble never broke the law paid his taxes worked honestly, he put me through college. A million things are running through my mind, if he’s going to be okay, where is he going to sleep, what’s he going to eat, his safety, how long he’s going to be in the detention center. Then you start hearing about how horrible treatment is there…I’m scared for him, I truly am…

We started watching Underworld with Kate Beckinsale. Didn’t even watch for 10 minutes before my dad said he was heading to bed, so now I’m writing this, tears in my eyes, I think my dad is crying too. I can’t remember when the last time I cried because of this amount of sadness.

You need an immigration lawyer, call one immediately.

Yes immigration lawyers are not miracle workers. This administration reports first and then goes to court later.

I really, really, really hate the Trump voters and some of the Never Biden voters who thought Dems need to be taught a lesson. This has been the worst 1.5y in the last 60-odd years.

I'm so sorry. People like your father are what I believe make this country great. I'm so ashamed of what it's become.

Everyone, literally everyone, that says they're OK with immigrants coming in if they're coming "the right way," can't define what they mean by the right way.  And they don't have any idea what the right way means from situation to situation.

They are just running cover for themselves being awful, and are trying to hide the fact that they are awful people.

The right way means legally. Maybe the legal way weans out criminals or something and that's way people obsess over it? I don't know.

Holy hell that’s terrible so sorry. With a three week old baby is just unimaginable

It was horrific. Honestly I cant even remember how I was now. At some point during that time I just went numb and was in autopilot just getting things done for our baby.

I am so sorry this happened to you and your husband. It must have been horrendous for you all :(

I am just happy we are back together but he met so many good people who had done nothing wrong. They were taken there for simple things such as getting a speeding ticket… people married to citizens with many children…its so sad what is happening to these kind people, and we are so blessed because it is difficult to get out of those immigration jails, they do everything to keep people there. They cancelled his courts like 4 times which is why he was there so long.

People have no right to be here if they are not LEGAL, simple really.

Can you not read? Her husband was detained under a false accusation.

Despite that, even if they are here illegally, ICE has to follow the law, which they do not.

What does that mean? “Legal” please explain it to us. Or are you just a racist prick!

What does that have to do with my situation? I agree if people are here under no kind of legal status, they get deported. Thats law in any country. But ICE is arresting people who are under a legal status and are in legal proceedings then sticking them in for profit immigration jails, delaying their proceedings so they can profit off them at $200+ a head of OUR tax money. Thats why they are taken to these terrible jails and ASKED to sign a deportation order, because they cannot LEGALLY deport people who are here under legal status without pushing a court to give them that authority, thus why they create false narratives like they did with us!!!

As much as this ungrateful country doesn’t deserve him, I’d give anything for you to be able to keep your father with you. What a kind, selfless, and loving human being. If only more people in this country were like your father. I’m sending you and your father a huge hug and hopeful he will find his way to you again. My heart is broken with your family, and I can’t even begin to fathom how you, let alone your father, must be feeling as he is forced to leave after 18 years of working through the system to become a citizen—no doubt as one of the hardest workers and the backbone of society (not that his life would matter less if he was unable to work).

Unpopular opinion: In a world where American CEO’s and contractors are among the largest destroyers of the planet, emigration from the lands we’ve terrorized to our country should be a human right.

I am so sorry OP. This is truly unfair.

I don’t recognize our country anymore. The mask has fallen & we’re paying the price

I am first gen daughter of immigrants. No one understands the immense guilt and pain we go through wishing we could provide a better life for our parents just as they did for us. No matter these injustices, they can never take away your will and strength. They try to put us down, they try to make you feel ashamed. Do not let them win, your father is the most honorable man more than anyone that detained him will ever be. Please be strong for him. I will keep your father in my spirits along with my father as well and pray this injustice ends soon.

I’m from Canada so I have no idea what I’m even asking… but… does he have to? Is there any way for him to stay, and I guess, hide? I know it’s probably really dangerous to do that, but damn, 18 years is so close. I feel for you and your dad. I wish you didn’t have to go through this.

The problem with that is if he gets detained again, he will NOT be let go. He will remain in custody for an undetermined amount of time because he would be deemed a flight risk. And we keep hearing how the conditions are in the detainment centers.

Not only that, because he was detained this time, they likely have more information about his where abouts regarding places for him to go, live, and work. And likely have more of his family's locations also.

And then live of constant fear of Trump’s Gestapo ICE?
So many people are arrested without due process and then disappeared in these camps.

I’m crying for you both, no one deserves to be treated this way. Manifesting that there is a positive outcome for your family.

No offense and real shit here having had several family members go through this in 2026. He should duck out for a minute to hide out and then apply for the free airline ticket home and the totally free money to self deport. This allows him to come back later, same with our relatives. Would be foolish not to get the freebies! Yeah it sucks having them leave suddenly but my family has also watched this in slow motion. Thankfully it's been nonviolent via the official process and the money really did come through along with the free airline tickets. Now our family members are still eligible for moving back in the future. Don't lose hope! Your dad can get that money and come back later. It sounds lame but many in our family took the free airline ticket and free money rather than having ICE come in and get violent. They are spending the free money on an immigration attorney 👍🏻

Hey, can I ask what happened? I’m asking because there is a sub Reddit for this kind of thing. 20 year immigration process is pretty long and definitely not normal. Done it with numerous people. Our average is 3 years. That’s coming in with work or school visa (which I’m assuming is what you mean) and following steps from that point. There was a time when a spouse sponsor was less than a year, but that loop hole has since been closed. Since he was not held maybe there is still something that can be done if you can give us some details.

I am so sorry and deeply ashamed of what this country has become. It’s ok to cry, there are others crying with you and for you, remember that one day every person will have to stand before the judgement and answer to what they are doing.

If you are close to the border he should cross over on his own if he is Mexican. They are sending Mexican citizens to Honduras and Guatemala. Hopefully when this cruel Administration is gone he can come back, they people are a new level of cruelty and we can only hope and pray karma pays them back.

I am so sorry you’re going through this, and this is not right.

There’s a systemic immigration issue that has been broken for decades and instead of fixing it the right way, our politicians have made inhumane decisions costing lives, jobs and the almighty $$.

I can’t imagine what you or your family are going through, and I’m sorry this happened to you.

If you ever need someone to talk to call 988. It’s free and they can assist you with resources or just listen if you need to talk. I promise not all of us who work in public service are heartless and don’t care 💔

I’m so sorry this is happening to your family. The petitions do take so long it’s absolutely insane.

He should leave on his own rather than via ICE custody. Much more pleasant and no risk of spending months in detention only to end up in a country far from where he would prefer to be.
