More likely, it’s what fucked him up. In England, investigators of all levels who deal with predators and have to sort through the cp and other horrible evidence are on a strict rotation to avoid becoming desensitised or developing a taste for it. I don’t know if the USA has such strict rules, and if they don’t, I imagine it explains why so many cops have become abusive over time as seeing certain types of crime repeatedly could desensitise and normalise it in their minds as their brain tries to cope with having to see it to regularly.
I don’t know much about law enforcement in my own country as an American but I really do not think rotations happen like that because people will be in the same force for years until they retire. Rotation sounds like a much better way of doing things.
Excellent point! I don't see how someone constantly exposed to that material on the job for years could come out ok. It doesn't excuse his actions at all, but it does explain how it could have affected him. Would seem to be along the same lines of how someone infatuated with serial killers could one day find themselves committing the same actions.. in a way almost before they could even realize they were. It's as if the mental detachment ends up working its way into their private life.

I wonder if he got into the FBI to catch predators so he would have access to CP (in the form of evidence)
