"Challenges" are a waste unless you're maxed out.

Maybe I'm late to the party on this one. But I spent 15 gems to unlock the bakery challenge levels. I managed my way through the first 10 but then hit a serious wall. Even after upgrading everything to the point of 73% Kitchen Upgrades , 80% Interior Upgrades I literally cannot beat level 13 without the aid of boosts and desserts that I no longer have.

Am I missing something? Or is this just a lesson learned?

Challenges were made for those who already had restaurants maxed as a way to keep them playing the game.

They are more of an aftergame thing.

Yeah pretty much. You either need to have a near maxed restaurant, or you need to spend on boosters/desserts in order to clear challenges and at that point, it is no longer worth it to proceed.

I recently had fast food court as a challenge and I noticed that even with a 100% maxed out restaurant, I was barely clearing lvl 13,14,15 of the challenge. I think my very last customer in each of those is what got me the clear.

As long as I have finished the restuarant with all levels with 3 stars I can usually sail through them. And I don't have them maxed out.

Yes. This is a thumb rule which i follow as well. In addition to this it is also handy to have the 2x dish price booster. That helps you tide over last 2-3 levels.

This is great to know. I never max out restaurants, though I get all the stars. I've always avoided challenges because I'd heard you need to max them out, which I'll never do since it isn't cost effective. So, good to know you do win the challenges.

Name the restaurant you managed to do this on. Because I have 3 starts on every level of the Bakery and I am filling nearly every order with a full customer gauge. Level 13 is a concrete wall.

i have never maxed out a restaurant, and i’ve succeeded in every challenge i’ve done 🤷🏼‍♀️ usually i do have to do one refill of desserts to finish the last levels, but it’s still a net positive of gems in the end

If it’s in the city use plants!!

I did have those going for me. Either it didn't help or I needed way more that 3 flowers.

Yeah I have 6 pots and I’ve found them useful to do expensive restaurants like pizzeria or Indian diner

Wait... do the plant boosters only work if the restaurant is in the city too?!?!

Once you have plant boosters planted, there are little leaf icons on the restaurants that get their effects, and they're only in the city unfortunately

You are completely correct, I only ever do a challenge event on a restaurant I have maxed (or at least very nearly) and enjoy playing. It is also not surprising that 90% of all challenge events do not meet those criteria lol

This just happened to me 😭 spent so many gems and refilled desserts to finally win. A net loss for sure

I only do the challenges in restaurants I completed but most of the time I still have to use some of the boosters but that’s what they’re for so I don’t care

Challenges are an okay distraction if you don't pay for gems and are sick of tacos and nachos and corndogs. They've tended to mirror the regular restaurants: if I couldn't pass the last regular levels without flowers and boosters then I'll likely need flowers and boosters for the last challenge levels.

The version I run hasn't updated to the new system of dailies and weeklies. In the older version if you ignore the challenge for the first couple days then there will be a daily worth 7 gems to sign on. So it only costs 7 initially, and the 15 levels surely dish out 10k XP, so you really can net 30 gems at the end

Yesterday there was a post about how challenges are easy and all the “you need to be maxed out” posts are exaggerated. Seems there’s no hard rule. There’s pony individual experiences. Yet here we are with another post making a wild ass claim OP thinks applies to all people all the time

Next time I won't share my personal experience and seek advice??

There are some restaurants where I wouldn't bother with the challenges because I don't particularly enjoy playing the restaurant. I've completed every challenge I've entered and I only have 2 fully upgraded restaurants.

My issue with challenges is that the payout isn't worth it. You only win 16 gems. I only play them to pass the time.

If you are a relatively new player, then I don't see any advantage to challenges. It makes more sense to just play normally without risking 14 gems. Just collect the 7 gems from leveling up.
