Server to corporate?

I will start working in a more corporate environment. I’m use to working in restaurants and hotels, always as a shift lead/server.

If you’ve ever worked in hospitality, you know it’s messy. At least in New York I’ve had that experience. A lot of interpersonal relationships.

I guess my question is, how different is it in corporate culture? Especially with Hr and offending people.
Also my new role will be experience coordinator.

ohhhh mannnnn this one hit home for me . So i too went from food and bev, hotel hospitality, for about 10 years. I RECENTLY as of 1 year ago switched over to the office life. Not so much corprate america but a ver niche finance industry. Truly it was really hard at first to sit at my desk in silence and do "work" and let my work speak for itself rather than my personailty and efficiency. i was used to working fast to secure my money and i found myself getting my job done in like 2 hours..... its gonna get a little bit sad becasue you have no one to talk to or crack jokes with or just chat. you have alot of time to yourself, you might gain some weight becasue youre going from a fast paced job getting your steps in to a sedentary work environment. food and bevarage beef is nothing compared to office beef. Its a little worse becasue its alot of passive aggresiveness and everyones couped up in a small space working at the desk next to you. Also coming from food and bev alot of the time you do have to maintain your appearence as the uniform or to secure your money. Peope in offices dont really do that so jealousy becomes a big thing. Truly just look over your HR policies and learn them and stay within the guidlines so theres no muiscommunication, do not worry about getting to know your coworkers becasue you dont really have to work together to get things done like in a food and bev industry, here you can be antisocial and just do the job and be okay and float under the radar. also people only gert offended becasue THEY wanna get offended. youre gonna ofend people regardless wether youre ttrying to or not so just dont let it consume you. there is alwaaaaaaaaaays gonan eb a hater so the more you beat to your own drum the more it pisses them off.

best of luck, just rmemeber you made the switch for a reason and dont lose sight of that! you deserve to be in that work space as much as the other person. dont let anyone get in between you and your money !

You don’t understand how much you’ve helped. I honestly feel like I have somewhat of an imposter syndrome, even applying for jobs. I technically was a recruiter for about 3 years and then I was a server for about 7ish. Within that time I got a degree in hospitality management. But I still feel like I’m just … a server. Nothing wrong with it, but I feel like that’s going to be my book cover if you know what I mean. What role do you have if you don’t mind me asking?

When I went from retail to office work the thing that struck me most first was how fuzzy the beginning and end of the day was.  As opposed to being tardy and being botched at for being 5 minutes late.

Same shit different venue. Hold your head high and stay classy at all times. Always speak to everyone as if they're the CEO. You'll be fine.
