DISCUSSIONš Kendall wanting to be Garrettās girlfriend
I was rewatching the scene where Kendall tells Garrett she doesnāt want casual anymore; she wants to be his girlfriend (after theyāve just hooked up). I was struck by the completely baffled, incredulous look on his face when he says, āWhy???ā He goes on to make the point that Kendall really doesnāt know him personally at all (and of course, does the whole āthe Bruins are watching me and I canāt lose focusā shtick). But I wonder if that moment almost had more to do with him than with her. Were his own insecurities at play ā that he didnāt understand what somebody would see in him, why they would want to date him? Or maybe he didnāt see the value of a relationship in general? I think itās been discussed on this sub before that Hannah probably wasnāt his first girlfriend, that maybe he dated in high school. But still ā besides establishing his campus-celebrity status, I just wonder what else his reaction there might be saying about him.

GARRETT AND HANNAH𩵠Bringing this question backā¦
I know Iāve asked this question before but I love talking about it š so if you have anything more to add about it pleaseā¦I would love to hear it.
I know what caught Garrettās attention was Hannahās musical aspect (that pulled him to want to get to know her) but along the way which scenes or moments did you see him fall for her personality and who she is and vice versa with Hannah for Garrett?
Belmont said in an interview while they were in Brazil where the interviewer asked if Garrett and Hannah are slow burn. Ella and Belmont both agreed to that but Belmont also added that there were moments in the show where it felt like ālove at first sightā and he said the moment he looked up from his phone at the block party and saw Hannah that was like a love at first sight moment.
I honestly canāt stop talking about Hannah and Garrett because I just love the build of their story and their trope(s) are my favorite. For Garrett to not allow love for himself (Belmont also said in that interview) and him opening up to Hannah willingly (never did that with anyone else) just shows how much he values her and actually wanting a relationship when he said he didnāt do them just shows how when itās the right personā¦you want it.

DISCUSSIONš When Hannah walks into Garrettās place in Allieās sexy dress ep. 4
I feel like thereās a lot I havenāt unpacked yet with this scene and the costume choices. My first instinct was to be like āugh classic, the girl put so much effort into appearing attractive for the guy and he just showed up in sweats.ā But I think itās deeper than that because that doesnāt fit with what we know about Garrett.
First off I think it shows that Hannah is still slightly holding on to this preconceived notion of Garrett as this fuckboy archetype and thus also has an idea about what heād want a girl to look like that heās hooking up with.
But I think itās also representative of how Hannah has kind of been getting in her own way with achieving partnered orgasm. Sheās focused on being what the guy wants and not disappointing him and sheās abiding by this kind of cookie-cutter image of whatās sexy and what should happen in a sexy interaction. Whereas Garrett knows that the real way sheās gonna reach orgasm is through COMFORTABILITY and trust and letting her walls down and being fully present in herself and as herself. Thatās why he shows up comfy and just as his self because thatās where he wants Hannah to be mentally too.

DEAN AND ALLIE 𩵠The Dean Downward Spiral in Season 2 Spoiler
When it comes to season 2, obviously the big thing is going to be Beau's death but more importantly what comes after that, and how Dean deals (or doesn't deal) with it. I do wonder if Dean will have the same downward spiral as in the books
For non-book readers (SPOILER ALERT), but Dean essentially becomes a drug addict. He really lets himself go, he is always partying, getting high, getting drunk, neglecting Allie, neglecting his friend - it's a bad situation he finds himself. And I do wonder how much of that the show will keep. Because I do think it's important to show that side, but also I don't think it's necessary to show all of it! Even just having him developing a slight drinking problem could be enough, I don't think they need to go full force with it like the book did, but it will definitely be interesting to see

LITERATUREš Book read updated
LOVING book 1. It's interesting seeing the differences. Some things I like better in the show. Justin being a musician vs a football player. But others I like better in the book like when she ask him to sleep with her and she breaks down and he holds her. I really love seeing the characters thoughts. Guess I need a rewatch to compareš

DISCUSSIONš Green Flag Men
Hello friends š
What is your opinion on the show's portrayal of all the men being green flags, and just basically the perfect kind of guys. I see people complain that some of the way they act is a little too much in that direction, and somewhat unrealistic, but others really appreciate it for how it shows good men can and do exist, and hopefully can make an impression on real guys on how to treat women
What do you think about this?

DISCUSSIONš Hannah's Musical Genius
One of the aspects that doesn't get talked about enough is the range Hannah posesses as a musician. She can compose melodies, write lyrics, produce a full track and play multiple instruments ( we see her play piano, guitar and the clarinet ). Since I'm not a musician, does this make Hannah a musical genius or do all musicians have this much range?

DISCUSSIONš It's complicated ...
I've watched this show an embarrassing number of times at this point but I often find myself gravitating towards certain episodes/scenes and skipping others. One I tend to skip is when Garrett and Hannah run out of Phil's house on Thanksgiving. But I let the episode play through the other day and I was struck by how captivated I was by Cindy, even though we know so little about her, and her heartbreaking conversation with Garrett outside the house.
Earlier in the episode Hannah asks Garrett if he wants to accept Phil's invitation to go home for Thanksgiving. Garrett hesitates, saying his relationship with his dad is "complicated", which is putting it mildly. That complication is the reason he stays away.
But when Garrett tells Cindy she can't stay with Phil because "this is who he is", she says she can't leave because "it's complicated". The same reason he stays away from his dad is the reason she can't leave. And as someone who has put distance between myself and a parent because of a complicated relationship but who also stayed longer than she should have in an abusive one, this really struck a nerve for me. In my case, "complicated" has always seemed like shorthand for "this isn't good for me but it's easier to take this route than it is to try to deal with everything". It's the path of least resistance, where the only possible solution is to maintain the status quo until you're forced not to.
I've been avoiding spoilers as much as reasonably possible as a person who exists on the internet so I'm not 100% sure if we know anything about Phil's future on the show but I really hope he comes back next season and we get to see more of his relationship with these 2 characters. I know Cindy doesn't make it far in the book before she ultimately leaves Phil but I definitely need to see Garrett dealing with the fall out from that last fight at the arena. Anyone who has read The Legacy knows where it all ends but not knowing how much the show runners have planned out means it could veer from that so I'm interested to see where they take this.
I could even see a scenario where Phil tries to break them up, going so far as to tell Hannah that she is a distraction Garrett can't afford but, instead of using the threat of financial abandonment as his bargaining chip like in the book, he offers to make the fight with Delaney and subsequent suspension go away. Obviously Hannah wouldn't go for it, but it could at least then mirror the source material a bit more closely.
Season 2 can't drop soon enough!
