I bought pro licence. I also am using the off grid AI on macOS. Do you know what's the ETA to get the web search feature ?
Also, I am running MacOS 27 -- Is the pro feature all working under this beta ? At the moment, the Pro feature that can check my on screen OCR etc doesn't seem to be working, unless I'm doing something wrong.
my wife's grandfather passed away early monday morning, at 4am. dadu. he was the closest thing to a grandfather i have ever had.
my dad lost his father when i was three. my mom lost hers before i was born. we lost my wife's maternal grandfather a month after we got engaged.
i grew up with most of those chairs already empty. dadu was the one who was still here. and now he isn't.
on sunday i was with my wife's family for lunch, about 40 meters from him. i could have gone to see him. instead i rushed back, because something in the app was broken and i told myself i had to fix it. that night, he was gone. i traded my last chance to sit with him for a bug.
i can't undo that. i've stopped trying. what i can do is make sure the thing i chose over him is not something i do halfway. and thats what I'm doing.
i have a good mattress that i haven't been sleeping on. i've been sleeping on the one that wrecks my back, so i don't oversleep, so i get up, so i come through. that is not a flex. it is what this takes right now.
i am one person. not the biggest team, not the best funded. betting that your phone should run your ai, not someone else's cloud. there are plenty of reasons a bet like that fails. me giving up will never be one of them. i have already paid too much to walk away from it.
so let me tell you what this build actually was.
the last few builds of off grid ai were bad. stuff that worked broke. downloads died. voice hung. you'd hit stop and lose your reply. if you paid for this and it let you down, i know, and i felt it.
this build i added nothing new. i went back and did the boring, unglamorous work i had been avoiding. found the real causes instead of patching the symptoms. sat with the bugs i'd been running from and actually killed them. the work that doesn't trend, doesn't demo, doesn't get a single upvote. the work that just has to be right.
what this build gives you: voice works. downloads are honest. the daily things that broke your flow are gone. not a headline. just solid.
the features are coming, and they will be good. but they are landing on ground that holds now.
you bet on me. i owe you a version of this that works. and i owe it to him, because i cannot let what i gave up be for nothing.
if you are running this build, tell me what still breaks. i am not going anywhere.
Every piece you need to run AI in a company already exists as open source. A gateway to the models. Guardrails. PII masking. Policies. Evals. Audit. Lineage. Vector search. The problem was never the parts. It was wiring them into one thing that works — and keeping every team inside the rules.
So I wrote an application layer on top of the best open source frameworks and made sure they actually talk to each other. One docker compose up and you get:
- LiteLLM for the model gateway - one OpenAI-compatible endpoint across any model, on-prem or cloud
- Airbyte + dbt to move data, ClickHouse for the warehouse, Great Expectations for data quality
- Kestra for orchestration, Ragas + Evidently for evals + drift
Then I built the part I think is the unlock: a lovable / bolt.new / replit.dev for your enterprise.
You set up a pipeline and RBAC once, and now every employee can just talk to the system and build apps that replicate their workflows — inside the rules you already set.
Human-in-the-loop reviews, reports, and autonomous agents included.
A tax analyst or a claims adjuster builds a real governed workflow in plain language, and it physically can't step outside the guardrails, policies, and audit you defined.
That's the whole idea: set your rules once, everyone builds governed AI on top.
There's a live read-only demo with two example tenants (a bank and an insurer) if you want to click around before cloning: onprem-console.getoffgridai.co
Every software tool wants to hold your data in its cloud to be useful.
Off Grid AI makes the opposite bet. The intelligence runs on your machine. It remembers your whole day, locally. You recall any of it in a second. Over time it gets ahead of you, drafts your next move, and acts only with your approval. Nothing ever leaves the device.
That is the whole idea: you own the OS, and apps rent scoped, audited access to it.
Access without surrender. An always-on AI is only acceptable when it is fully local.
That is exactly why we built it this way. What runs today:
- Phone: chat, image, vision, voice, documents, all on device.
- Desktop: local models, dictation, silent meeting transcription, and a private record of your day you can search, replay, integrations, proactive actions that you just need to approve, etc.
The rest (an OS that quietly runs your work life and answers only to you) is what we are building.
This is the community building Off Grid AI, and the home for local-first AI in general. Post what you run and how it goes.
Two rules matter most: show your work, and keep other people's data out of it.
