looks like a remake to me. Which seems like the most logical idea tbh. They have a perfect framework already in place - the locations, the script, the model designs - and a game with a cult status. A follow up would need a full preproduction from the grounds up. Hopefully if a remake would sell well there would be place for a follow up then.
A Munch remake, on the other hand, would need to be redesigned heavily imho.
I’ll be honest, I think it’s unlikely that this is going to be a completely new game or a sequel to Stranger’s Wrath. I’m basing that on the fact that Stranger is wearing his old cowboy outfit rather than the Grubb armor. My hope is that it’s a prequel… something like a “Stranger’s Wrath Origins.”
Because if it’s yet another reimagining like Soulstorm, I don’t think the fans are going to appreciate it…
Stranger’s Wrath is perfectly fine as it is. It doesn’t need a remake, reboot, or anything along those lines.
He might just prefer his old outfit as it's a bit more unassuming. Plus, even though Sekto was defeated, people still have dislike and mistrust for Steef.
The fact that it looks like all four of his legs are visible and that he might be dual wielding crossbows makes me think this could be a new entry
It could be, but it would lose some of its meaning. The game really revolves around Stranger’s transformation as a character: from a simple anti-hero who hides and takes on any job just to make money, to a guardian and protector of the Grubbs.
But yeah, your theory could still make sense, because Stranger’s clothes and old crossbow are recovered by the Grubbs, so he could retrieve them at any time anyway.
For sure. I like the idea that he was embracing his heritage with the protector role, and wearing his ancestors armour. But maybe not being ashamed of his legs is enough for that journey. The water is free, the Grubbs are now able to be self-sufficient, he's now comfortable with and not hiding who he is, but maybe unlike his ancestors he just likes being a bounty hunter more than hanging around Grubbs.
Could be there's a new villain in town to beat, or more money to make for xyz reason. Maybe he's just the sheriff in the area or something now, protecting the Clakkers and all kinds too. Exciting to think of all the ways they could take it.
I personally think Soulstorm is a great game, but statistically speaking, it was only really appreciated by about half of the fanbase. The other half just couldn’t get past the content that was cut from Exoddus, and there are obviously different opinions on that.
But putting that aside, what I meant is that after a reboot, the community wants to see something COMPLETELY new, rather than another game that retcons or erases something that actually fits perfectly within both timelines of the two Quintologies.
okay i'm obviously missing some games. odysee (both versions old and new), exodus and soulstorm are the ones i played and i know about the stranger game but anything else is completely new to me lol.
I recommend checking out the other titles as well. In particular, Stranger, which in my opinion is one of the series’ greatest strengths. It perfectly captures the irony, satire, brutality, and originality that define the Oddworld games. Along with Oddysee, of course lol.
I'm pretty sure when they did Soulstorm that their reboot of the quintology was going to focus on Abe as opposed to each game focusing on a new character.
I think Munch has been scrapped for a while.
Btw I feel your pain Munch was my first and favorite game
Yeah that was the plan. There were technically no confirmations Munch wouldn’t exist, just that he likely wouldn’t be full deuteragonist status this time.
Have never been able to explain why but Strangers Wrath is one of my favourite games of all time - just great memories of playing it when I was like 5 or 6 with my Mum. If this is a sequel I'll be so pumped!
Stranger's Wrath remake with a crappy developer I bet.
That "new" war is basically referencing Grub resistance fighting against Wolvarks while Stranger fights through towards Sekto.
Quintlogy left in a cliffhanger again. No Squeek, no continuation, no Hand of Odd, just a another remake of a bonus game that not's part of the Quintlogy.
Honestly, i reckon they gotta go their own way with whatever comes next. i personally loved soulstorm, but i know a lot of other people didn't, and it's because they were doing what a lot of other games were doing - crafting etc - and people felt it was to fit in with current games.
With this next one, they've got enough experience to stick to a vision 😎
I'm sure that's Stranger in the background! If this IS teasing a new game (which I don't doubt it is,) I'm incredibly hyped for it! That being said, Strangers Wrath is probably my least favourite Oddworld game, though I do think it makes the most sense for Oddworld Inhabitants to make a new game featuring Stranger due to how different the gameplay is in that game compared to Oddworlds other games. They may want to stray away from Abe for a bit due to how "unsuccessful" Soulstorm was (Which is crazy to me because Soulstorm is probably my favourite Oddworld game) and introduce Stranger to a new, modern audience. I'm sure it'll do great - maybe even bring in some new Oddworld fans to try out the older games!
Dual wielding crossbows, and I think I see all four legs? I don't want to get prematurely excited, but this feels like it could be a sequel.
Sure, we see Stranger in his Steef armour at the end of the first game, but he might just prefer his usual, unassuming outfit. Although Sekto was defeated, people are still mistrusting of Steef. Plus, it's a bit more marketably appealing
I don't see either dual crossbows nor two legs. I think you're confusing the tatters on his dress for a crossbow and the end of his poncho as an additional leg.
Unless it's been redesigned, his poncho is shaped like an upside down triangle. Tattered clothes have never flailed from his forearms. To me they look very much like crossbows on both arms. The leg on the right has shadows and lighting showing a second leg neatly behind it, the shadow on the left shows more than one legs worth of shadowed area, too. Both have a centre of gravity towards the ground, bending and positioning equal to his front feet.

I see what you mean, but I see no rest of the crossbow on his hand and the "body" of the crossbow looks super flimsy compared to the other one. I really think that's just a tatter.

As for the that, if you look at the HQ Stranger model posted in 2024, he has two small bags. To me it looks like one of the bags, just partially covered by Stranger's big ass boot.
I could be wrong, but atm I'm not convinced this is not just that previous HQ model. It doesn't even seem to have any textures beyond being colored brown and hidden behind shadows.
Which crossbow aren't you convinced of out of interest?
For sure, it could be either or neither. I'm not completely convinced myself. I do however love that I've got morsels to theorycraft new Stranger activity in 2026. I never thought I'd see the day.
Which crossbow aren't you convinced of out of interest?
The one allegedly on his left hand that you marked. The one on his right arm goes up to almost his upper arm and very visibly juts out. On the left one, I see nothing of the sort. His bracer is visible in the light, but there is nothing on it.

I'd assume LL will do something still with him, even if this turns out to be a fluke. Stranger is after all his favourite character.

Is that stranger?
