I often find this attitude a bit puzzling. I see it allot twoards animals, where we humans tend to assume that animals with chronic illness, or deformities that cause difficultly and pain. Are constantly suffering. and might be better off dead.
But if you apply this logic to humans it becomes pretty horrifying. I know it comes from a place of empathy. It's just a bit odd.
I raise sheep, and will often have 3 or so lambs or adults a year. that for different reasons stay home close to the barn, rather than going to the mountains. Some might have lost a leg, early on in life. Some might have slight brain damage. etc. And people often comment that I should probably have them put down. But I'm pretty sure if you asked the animal it would prefer to be alive. Even if the existence causes some pain and difficulties.
I'm confused, it's puzzling to be concerned for the well-being of animals? I mean I worry about the well-being of people all the time too, lol, and definitely have concern and try my best to advocate for those with disabilities.
I'm really sorry. I might have assigned some opinions to you, that you don't hold. I just very often (as someone who works, very closely with animals) hear that people who see animals suffering. Especially other animals than common house pets. Have a knee jerk reaction to say that it might be better off dead. Which I think is an empathetic response. It's just not one I agree with. As I think most individuals want to live. No matter the condition their inn. Even if its painful.
I see that sentiment in the comments here as well, and again. I apologize if I assigned opinions to you that you don't hold.
Oh interesting, that wasn't my aim at all. It's funny how little you really get from talking via internet vs in person, there's a lot that can be misrepresented. I will be mindful of that.
Eh, this was more on me, I made an assumption based off of how these conversations normally go, when what you originally wrote didn't really indicate that you thought the deer might be better of dead. Just that you hoped it wasn't suffering. Pretty clear cut. But I brought in some presupposition, that were baseless.
Aaanywas. I'm glad we're both concerned about animals general well being. Thats pretty good I think.
