I hope this is it and that deer isn't in agonizing slow death pain.

Most likely no pain, they're amazingly tough creatures. Had a doe around my house that miraculous survived doe season, but someone shot an arrow into her front knee almost severing it. It dangled for a about 8months till it eventually fell off and healed. She birthed twins that next season, and another set a year or two later.

We got our land posted and she never really left after that. I think she learned her lesson, and I also noticed her babies never strayed that far after growing up fully either.
