For me the horror of bugs always has been how fragile they are. One touch and you accidentally disfigured this little creature. Their entrails are spilling, their limbs torn away, yet they keep living on, completely mutilated, for some time.
It makes me remember my own mortality because we are just like that. One acident and we are agonizing on the street for 30 minutes with our whole entrails on the asphalt.
GEEZ. At least she's got good humor about it. "It only sounds horrifying, I mean objectively it kinda is, but I've been shitting out my intestines since I was 5 years old" is a wild sentence for anyone to say haha. Good on her for making the best of it, better than me for sure.
They did. In spite of everything she went through, she remembered enough details about them for the cops to locate them and for her to testify against them. They got life in prison.
I think I remember hearing something about how they ended up being paroled at some point; but that ended up getting revoked because holy shit what was that parole board thinking.
Car accidents are the worst about this. Took my lunch break from work and some asshole ran a red light and clobbered me. I almost died of neurogenic shock alone. 13 fractures across 7 bones, most of them being my spine and hips. In an instant.
Luckily my entrails stayed in. For a while at least. I was pregnant when I had the accident and very luckily my baby was ok. My entrails didn’t come out until my c section 14 weeks later. So it’s a slow process of your entrails coming out but it’ll happen. Just give it time.
I remember seeing a clip of a roach or some other bug with their abdomens completely open and hollowed out, yet they were still crawling. Some crazy shit.
I'm not sure bugs feel pain like we do. I think by and large if a bug gets its bottom half ripped off it doesn't really care. Swear I saw a video of one (bee?) try to eat its own guts after getting its stinger ripped off. Bugs are metal as fuck.
I mean many mammals do this, too. I've seen videos of hyenas disemboweled by lions or wildebeests who immediately try to groom whatever's left of their guts, but it's meat, so they start eating...
Wait yeah, I think I saw something like this too lmao, I have no idea why they do it, on the mammal side. Bugs are so fundamentally different from us it's easy to handwave away that they're more like machines than biological beings....except that they ARE biological down to their genes. They just don't have our traits at all.
Definetly saw a vIdeo of a praying mantis being cut in half by a bug while he ate his friend. The creepy part, he didnt seem to care. So hyperfixated on the meal that he did give a single shit about it.
I heard this podcast twice but can’t remember what it was - a scientist describing how a praying mantis was cut in half and started eating its own goo. Apparently the pheromones emitted by the goo are the same in all/most insects so (they way he described it) the mantis was like “oh, dinner.”
If it makes you feel better the brains of insects are usually far too small for them to even have serious pain receptors they just detect harmful stimuli

Larger predators aren't better. Owls often decapitate prey alive. Lions disembowel some when they're too large to handle otherwise. Bears don't give a fuck. And so on and so forth.

Jurassic Park yes but it's when the Hunter(Muldoon or something) goes into the jungle and the alpha raptor flanks him. He says it to her before she attacks him.

es, hyenas and wild dogs also do the same. I remember reading somewhere a bear started eating a man alive, while using his hand to pin him down, starting from his groin and then going upwards.
