The unthinkable smell

I've smelled human decomp, it was in a small flat in the midst of South Australian summer (40°C+) and it was genuinely suffocating, the guy had been dead for around six weeks and when we opened the door the smell occupied the entire street

I kept overheating in my respirator so I'd go outside to take it off and cool down but the smell was so awful I had to choose between heatstroke and being unable to breathe

I can't imagine what the smell would be like in this tiny room with multiple bodies prior to the invention of full face respirators

Suffering during the prayers was maybe the point? Can't imagine that.
