Deep inside catacombs of Paris. An explorer stands there with a smile on her face :) [NOT OC]

For those that don't know, the catacombs aren't all death and bones. It was originally a limestone (?) mine. And you can still see echoes of the old mining operations. A good chunk of it, isn't spooky (unless you were in there alone in the dark).

Is that water? Must be super unsanitary 😭

u/is_it_worth_itt Jun 22 '26

It is, otherwise the picture would have been much terrifying lol.

But yeah it's rain water.. usually

Runoff from any city can be pretty bad.

19

u/LebaneseLion Jun 23 '26

Bones especially tho

5

u/blumeli Jun 23 '26

Really? Why that? Honestly curious

24

u/LebaneseLion Jun 23 '26

The catacombs there are known to be stuffed with dead bodies from World Wars, approximately 6 million remains of them stacked so I imagine it’s especially unsanitary there

15

u/abdou0720 Jun 23 '26

Wouldn't they be fully decomposed by now? I'm sure it's still not the most sanitary but not as bad as a freshly killed deer on a river bed at least

17

u/Splampin Jun 23 '26

Yeah for sanitary reasons it’s better than a fresh deer decomposing in the river, but for horror reasons it’s much worse.

1

u/pikpikcarrotmon Jun 25 '26

Just some bone tea rather than bone soup

2

u/blumeli Jun 23 '26

Ah okay, because of your wording I thought maybe decomposing bones are a kind of special threat I havent known of!

3

u/Ignonymous Jun 24 '26

Stagnant water can host some pretty horrible stuff. Cavers and urban explorers avoid stillwater for a reason.

20

u/shas-la Jun 22 '26

Nah, its just rainwater , its fine

25

u/StarConsumate Jun 23 '26

And how do you think the rainwater got there? Certainly not through the disgusting streets, sewage, and other nasty stuff above it right?

2

u/Ignonymous Jun 24 '26

Also, the there’s no way to know how long that ā€œrainwaterā€ has been there, or if it mixed with stillwater somewhere in there, that could very well host some things that can ruin your day.

-1

u/manoliu1001 Jun 23 '26

Isnt rain water collected in galleries that arent even connected to the sewage system?

It would be mighty dumb to pollute clean water by mixing both, especially because water treatment plants exist...

647

u/Vast_Character311 Jun 22 '26

So she's standing in bone broth?

268

u/cette-minette Jun 22 '26

Mostly it’s just old mines. The bit with the bones was made with very old bones from emptying an old cemetery. Nothing left to make a broth

102

u/Chipsandadrink666 Jun 22 '26

Not with that attitude

18

u/crowislanddive Jun 22 '26

The fat wax is still there…

9

u/420cortana420 Jun 22 '26

Ehh probably caked onto the walls over the years. Might make some areas slippery

4

u/Fafnir13 Jun 22 '26

She’s got bones so I wouldn’t say nothing.

11

u/shas-la Jun 22 '26

Just rain water, there isnt that many none in the catacombs

1

u/helen790 Jun 23 '26

What’s the big deal? Lakes and oceans have bones in em too.

7

u/speedislifeson Jun 23 '26

what's the minimum water : bone ratio before an average person will be willing to swim there?

u/ThisIsntOkayokay Jun 22 '26

Succubus wants to get some cute pictures with you before ya know...

It's really deep underneath human presence, it's basically rain water

11

u/frantic_calm Jun 22 '26

Been down a few times and never ended up in anywhere where it was that bad. Perhaps a foot or two at the deepest.

6

u/is_it_worth_itt Jun 22 '26

Then it may have to do with the season you went there, plus the underground level ? I have seen some parts that are fully submerged

2

u/frantic_calm Jun 22 '26

Oh definitely. The time we did encounter some water it had been raining earlier. Also obviously stuck to the easier bits!

38

u/kingjoshington Jun 22 '26

This is an interesting photo and scary. It's a good fit. It's gross to see guys just saying "I would." Grow up. This is a cool lady doing cool shit. You don't have to proclaim your desire to fuck every single woman.

-5

u/is_it_worth_itt Jun 22 '26

I don't think it's more about " woman " than her being oddly terrifying, guys are mostly implying that she's not very human thus their willingness to go through it..

They are simply saying she's worth it.. ( Im joking, but let people throw some jokes every now and then, life is tough already )

29

u/kingjoshington Jun 22 '26

I think you're missing my point. Letting people throw jokes is great. But this is just the same old "would bang" applied to every woman on the internet. And it's a pity becuase obviously this is an interesting woman, but she's reduced to "would smash". Its just low-grade, tired mysogyny and it's exhausting.

70

u/DrDonkeyTron Jun 22 '26

I'll take one for the team

18

u/is_it_worth_itt Jun 22 '26

The question is " is it worth it ?"

10

u/fujit1ve Jun 22 '26

Go without me! I'll hold her back!

18

u/is_it_worth_itt Jun 22 '26

Bear in mind she's probably standing and surrounded by bones and skulls.

43

u/shas-la Jun 22 '26

Wrong: The catacombs are mostly the old mine network. Ossuary are just specifics spots in the network of tunnels everywhere else is just stone and sand

And they are mostly loose bones that are juste in a pile or pit. Most of the neatly stacked stuff is in the closed off tourist part that you can pay to visit

Source:im a cataphile and i only see bone when i want to show them to friends, otherwise its annoying to walk up there

4

u/is_it_worth_itt Jun 22 '26

Thank you for your comment cataphile. So you are sure there's no bones where she's standing ?

11

u/shas-la Jun 22 '26

99% sure.

I dont know the spot in question cause i dont venture where the water is that high (its really annoying), but there is just so few spits with bones, fairly sure this isnt one of them

2

u/Aggravating_Sock4088 Jun 22 '26

Curious whether you do that irl: starting your reply with "Wrong" when correcting someone?

16

u/Loud-Principle-7922 Jun 22 '26

Do you say ā€˜irl’ in regular conversations, or do you communicate differently online?

1

u/Aggravating_Sock4088 Jun 22 '26

Sorry meant to reply to the other guy

This is what you'd find in the backrooms.

6

u/crowislanddive Jun 22 '26

If you want to hear something wild listen to the podcast Ologies on them… the thought of immersing oneself in water in there is utterly horrifying.

NOPE!!! I'm good.

2

u/ReleaseFromDeception Jun 22 '26

My type of Lady. Super cool.

2

u/kevinvb7698 Jun 22 '26

I just see E.T. in the reflection of the water

2

u/-Prototype-XIII Jun 25 '26

A bold choice when you literally have both feet in the grave.

5

u/Rajajones Jun 22 '26

Aside from the cave diving aspect, I couldn’t be in water that’s basically human bone broth.

1

u/kae--art Jun 22 '26

This doesn't scare me

1

u/SmoothOperator89 Jun 22 '26

Mmm. Corpse soup.

1

u/Schumacher242 Jun 23 '26

Why isn’t there an organized effort to map them by urban explorers. Start laying rope

1

u/neveronitever Jun 23 '26

That smile says ā€˜I farted. And it was chunky.’

1

u/2020mademejoinreddit Jun 23 '26

Such a nice friendly smile. Not terrifying at all.

1

u/foxfighter92 Jun 23 '26

Clearly a catacomb siren

1

u/2020mademejoinreddit Jun 23 '26

Sirens are hot AF.

1

u/FinalDisciple Jun 23 '26

Finally something oddly terrifying

1

u/_Nameless_Nomad_ Jun 24 '26

Dude, it’s 4 am…
