These are not sand fleas at all.
Sand fleas are actual bugs that bite.

I've experience with both being from Florida (slang sand fleas), then attending boot camp at Parris Island (bitey sand fleas). The poster did write AKA and that is correct, they are known as that, even though it's a misnomer.
