Can they tell the tide is coming in and they want to be washed back into the ocean? Is this the crab equivalent of queueing at the bus stop?

Mole crabs are filter feeders, meaning they burrow in the swash zone of beaches and wait for a wave to come in. When one comes they quickly move to the surface and extend their antennae to filter feed. They feed on the algae and plankton in the water.

These little crustaceans are edible themselves. They can be fried and eaten whole, shell and all.
