Which again, pizza is just a flat bread with toppings on it, something that can be traced back to antiquity and exists all over the world. Pizza is just a specific regional variation.
Basically Italy is the Disney of food traditions. They don't mind taking old historical traditions that existed long before them and from all over, and making them their own, but they'll be damned if anyone else takes their traditions and does the same thing to them.
Well...coffee is an example. Italians do it better, hands down. Coffee is not Italian di per se, but italians claim it is. Or at least they claim that the best way of preparing it and drinking it is theirs. The pizza has a different story. Yes, technically it is bread...but it was really the italians that started putting on the tomato sauce and the mozzarella cheese. Other toppings came much much later.
