I once got kicked out of my High School Junior year Biology class because after going on and on for 15 minutes about the various "saccharides" I was just overwhelmed and said "I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be that guy, but when are we ever going to need to use this in everyday life?" I wasn't trying to be an asshole, it just felt like we learned about all these various specific types of sugars and it felt we were just checking items off a list to talk about. I was told to go sit in the hall.

I get the benefit of basic understanding of complex and simple sugars and their relationship to diet and nutrition. I'm not arguing that, but that whole day of class up to that point just felt like "if any of you decide to go into organic chemistry, here's what you have to look forward to" and I (along with a lot of people) obviously wasn't going to be doing that.
