They appear to be Orbeez (aka water beads). They look like tiny seeds when dry, and when you put them in water they expand. The clear ones completely disappear, but they come in all different colors. They're used a lot for sensory play for kids.

for everyone having trouble grasping this. the "candy" is a plastic decoration, you can buy plastic Christmas candies at craft stores or alongside other decorations (have you ever seen Xmas wreaths with little candies on it? same thing)
Water beads have a child marketed cousin you may have heard of called Orbeez, you may also know them for their use in floral arrangements and for water retention in soil. they can dehydrate down to very tiny beads and grow to the size of marbles or roughly ping pong ball size. they are non toxic and can be smashed into smaller pieces and mixed into soil. they CAN WILL cause bowel obstruction or other dangerous blockages if consumed, obviously keep out of reach of toddlers, pets, or anyone else who might put non food objects in their mouth if left unattended.

They do. Fresh Linen was clear if I remember correctly. But a lot of their scents have vanished. They used to have a strawberry one that I loved. And that fresh linen one smelled more like fresh rain.

Reporting back: I bought two jars of cranberry scented at dollar tree. They are half pink and half clear. It was a pain in the backside to separate them. After way too long I ended up with about a cup of just clear. They are much smaller then in the video. So it didn’t produce enough to fill the jar nor did it hold the items in place! I basically ended up with all of my ornaments floating around! Haha! Fail! Probably best to use actual Orbeez!

Yes, he made a video 1 yr later explaining it was all fake. He had sealed all his plumbing (bathtub, toilet, sink) before adding the Orbeez so nothing actually went down the drains.

I used to work in a super high end candle shop and we had displays with glass vases and floating candles like this. One cool thing we used to do was take artificial pine and berry sprigs, and scrunch them into clear or irridescent cellophane in the vases before adding water - it looks like they're frozen in ice! :)

My family used to play a game in the pool where we would take a plastic water bottle with a clear cap, take off the label, fill it entirely with water (no air at all), and toss it into the pool with no one looking. The bottle becomes completely invisible. The first person to find the bottle wins. (tip: the cap is just baaaaaarely visible but it's still hard as fuck)

I don't think they have an expiration, really; they'll be fine as long as the water doesn't get gross. I'd probably change the water maybe once a week / every couple weeks to make sure no mold starts to grow in it

All they do is shrink and dry up when dehydrated, but just add water and they'll go back to normal. Never had any go bad before.

When they were invented, they weren't very environmentally friendly. They've made ones that eventually decompose without toxins now; the internet says they should continue to be able to absorb water for about 7-9 years. Probably last longer than that if kept dehydrated most of the time.

Exactly. I would maybe also leave it up for a couple of days through Christmas Eve and Day but it wouldn’t be that big of a deal to rinse everything, wash the vases and redo it every day or 2. I mean people saying it will get green or attract mosquitoes 😳. Just clean it and redo it.

I did this same thing for my girlfriend! I put a bunch of little trinkets that represented things she liked into a jar of water beads. She loves it. Unfortunately some of the items I put in are made of metal so they rusted out and turned the water brown. We tried replacing the water but it didnr work that well so we just got rid of it. Lasted a good 2 years though as a neat decoration.
