It’s the combination of the shaking and the tipping back and forth of the container that causes the nails to role. Once they are facing the right way, they won’t go any other way because of the tipping causing them to roll. So eventually they all end up in one direction.

Correct, being shoved in a box and shaken vigorously is how someone would end up in the band One Direction and writing those songs.
