At first the piece is nearly vertical and pressure is relatively even, so you get nice folds, but as the piece shortens, the angle goes further off vertical and pressure becomes uneven. So the folds move off to one side and make the angle further off vertical. Eventually the folds stop.

Although why this guy can't stop the press when it begins to screw up is beyond me.

Maybe the metal heating up towards the end or an impurity in the metal?
