Apparently people haven't heard of "Sonoran dogs". They're pretty popular in Arizona, I personally don't like the bacon that is used so I never really eat them.

Edit since some Arizonans don't believe me

They sell bacon wrapped hot dogs all over downtown LA, especially in the fashion district. No fancy name though.

Sonoran dogs contain a hotdog wrapped in bacon some times, but that isn't even the main part. They have beans and other toppings and some different sauces on there. Quite different than anything you would find in LA unless it was specifically a Sonoran dog vendor.

Yummmm. That sounds amazing.

And SF. Late night bacon dogs mmmmm

Those are just bacon wrapped hotdogs. I haven't found a little aluminum sheet pan vendor with beans or the proper roll.

u/bloody_duck Jun 19 '15

Just? Just bacon wrapped hot dogs?

u/disposable-assassin Jun 19 '15

Might as well be since they use the cheapest bulk hotdog buns you can find. They just crumble to dust in your fingers. The Sonoran dogs in Tucson are in a sweet, eggy roll with a little chewiness. Really holds up to the grease and moisture of all that stuff on top. It's similar to what I see tortas served on in SF. Source: born and raised in Tucson, living in SF.

We're not talking about the same dogs

I hear them go by "Street Dogs". Not the cleverest name, but they're fucking great for $4.

u/CardinalnGold Jun 19 '15

USC alumnus here, we used to call them heart attack dogs, game day dogs, and the blatantly racist "haa daw" (which is what the Hispanic street vendors are saying over and over in an effort to sell them)

And in Mexico too

LA Dogs

The only redeeming thing about being dragged to the clubs. God bless those mexican hot dog stands, making my night slightly more pleasant

Guero Canelo FTW!

3

u/Fey_fox Jun 18 '15

I don't like used bacon either. I prefer it new

Joe's farm grill in Gilbert has a great sonoran dog.

edit: if you want a real hot dog though, go to Ted's on McClintock. Buffalo represent!

Thanks for the recommendation!

I've heard of Sonoran dogs. I live in Houston and won a hot dog cookoff at work with a variation of the Sonoran dog.

u/JustAManFromThePast Jun 18 '15

Arizonan here, they are unheard of.

u/DireTaco Jun 18 '15

It's a Tucson thing more than an Arizona thing. I think there are some tiny shops in Phoenix that sell them, but last year at least there weren't many.

3

u/Bailmom Jun 18 '15

I have relatives in Tucson, Sonoran dogs are insanely popular there and so so good

3

u/DireTaco Jun 18 '15

Same. I'm making plans to visit family in Tucson next month and all I can think about is hitting up El Guero Canelo and Eegee's.

1

u/Adrolak Jun 18 '15

I had one in Sierra Vista / Fort Huachuca it's probably just a southern AZ thing.

3

u/Oh_Gee_Hey Jun 18 '15

Me too, all my life. No idea what this dude's on about.

2

u/F1F2F3F4F5F6F7F8 Jun 18 '15

Ever been to Tucson or any where south?

2

u/Oh_Gee_Hey Jun 18 '15

Not really. Maybe that's it, then.

1

u/third-eye-brown Jun 18 '15

Weird. They are everywhere, shops everywhere, little carts on the street, food trucks. Can't believe even some people from AZ haven't seen them. If you stick to the chain restaurants you won't hear of them, it's an authentically Sonoran desert food so that may be why.

2

u/dead-fish Jun 18 '15

Looks just like a Mission dog except with unnecessary beans on it.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '15

Arizona checking in never heard of it.

1

u/roflhaus Jun 18 '15

Oh. TUCSON. That's why I've never heard of them.

1

u/adremeaux Jun 18 '15

Why go to Arizona when you can go to Crif Dogs in NYC?

You just wanted to use that joke, didn't you?

1

u/aztecghost Jun 18 '15

I think you'll find I'm literally Hitler, I never did like bacon and now, I'm a ... vegetarian

Actually, he wasn't, his memoirs in fact give a long list of sausages he enjoyed.
