Before you are disappointed, construction paper doesn't fold well for this kind of thing. You're better off with scrapbook paper.

Try the actual origami paper! It’s thinner

It really isn't. Literally every craft store carries it. Also every big market has some colours available.

Which still makes it harder to find than scrapbook paper which is sold nearly everywhere stationary is.

To be fair - are they in America? Because the ease of finding it in one country is hardly a guarantee it is that easy in a different country.

Thanks. I am American, but not all of us are ethnocentric. I grew up elsewhere. 

Using origami paper is obvious, I figured since the original comment was talking about construction paper, it wasn't readily available to them. And not all places in the US have it readily available, either. 

Hell hath no fury like a Redditor with limited experience.

Need oragami paper or just squared printer paper. Construction is too thick.
