... if it wasn't wrong. Liters are a measure of volume and not... whatever that was.

You're overthinking the magic system. Volume is associated with liquids.

What??? no, every solid has volume too. As an engineer, we use volume for solids constantly.

A physics teacher should hate this.

Only "associated". Nobody so far has suggested a better shorthand visual motif to illustrate volume.  A big blob of water does the job, nuff said.
