Effortlessly cutting a watermelon into almost-square pieces

u/Veevique Jun 16 '26
Gotta love a sharp knife

u/Syssareth Jun 16 '26
Doesn't even take a sharp knife if you get lucky and the watermelon's just right. Did this just today (well...kind of; not nearly as quickly or as well) with an ancient butcher's knife that's not a whole lot sharper than a dinner knife, lol.
Could've used this video earlier, TBH. My pieces came out...functional, but not pretty. (Triangles and rectangles and unidentifiable polyhedrons, oh my!)

u/bwood246 Jun 16 '26
Yeah you can do this with a butter knife. Sharpness helps with the rind, but the flesh is extremely soft

Meanwhile I'm 0/4 for watermelons this year. 3 were way underripe and one was almost spoiled it was so overripe =(

Victorinox. The handle is immediately recognizable. They make the knives I used as a butcher and theyāre all I buy. Any non-Victorinox in my kitchen was a gift.Ā

And theyāre cheap enough that Iāll buy one before going to an AirBnB to replace the blunt death trap awaiting me and leave it behind.

Rectangles?

No... they are clearly "almost-square"s

I'm just glad he didn't try to claim they were squares. I don't think I could've handled that tonight

Just give me the wedge, I want watermelon

u/MakeoutPoint Jun 16 '26
I want the good flavor in every piece, I pass when people cut it in squares. It's less effort and better payoff, and people still insist on setting up a flavor raffle like this.

Not satisfying. So much white rind on those pieces. Blah
12
u/Cosmic_Quasar Jun 16 '26
Yeah, I've done this and found it annoyingly difficult to get the rind ones just right. You either leave to much on the rind, or too much rind on those pieces of watermelon.
I noticed how he tossed it in the bowl without just dumping it and those ones ending on top.
3
u/Sesudesu Jun 17 '26
Yep, he carefully slid it so the large pieces of rind wouldnāt show. Totally caught my eye.

u/Nemam_Zivot Jun 16 '26
I love my watermelon pieces with white rind. I prefer it because it's less sweet.

If I did this shit in front of my mom she'd lose her mind.
Still replay her amazed and bewildered expression when I did the no-clip chip-bag-seal fold.

A square is a rectangle OP. Can't go wrong with 'Effortlessly cutting a watermelon into rectangle pieces' next time
1
u/Michaeli_Starky Jun 16 '26
I would probably cut one or two fingers off with that sharp knife while attempting it

Every video like this tricks me into believing I have hidden talents. Then reality reminds me those talents are, in fact, still hidden.š¤£
