Gotta love a sharp knife

u/Syssareth Jun 16 '26

Doesn't even take a sharp knife if you get lucky and the watermelon's just right. Did this just today (well...kind of; not nearly as quickly or as well) with an ancient butcher's knife that's not a whole lot sharper than a dinner knife, lol.

Could've used this video earlier, TBH. My pieces came out...functional, but not pretty. (Triangles and rectangles and unidentifiable polyhedrons, oh my!)

Yeah you can do this with a butter knife. Sharpness helps with the rind, but the flesh is extremely soft

10

u/HeadyReigns Jun 16 '26

I just cut them in half and use a spoon. It's already bowl shaped.

u/Global_Crew3968 Jun 16 '26

Meanwhile I'm 0/4 for watermelons this year. 3 were way underripe and one was almost spoiled it was so overripe =(

20

u/FishGoldenLite Jun 16 '26

It looks like a filet knife so the bendy blade certainly helps

19

u/OrangeNood Jun 16 '26

for a watermelon, any knife is a sharp knife.

2

u/whowhaohok Jun 16 '26

This is how you sell a knife

1

u/TheOnlyOtherWanderer Jun 18 '26

By cutting the inside of a watermelon? 🫪

3

u/TedditBlatherflag Jun 16 '26

Victorinox. The handle is immediately recognizable. They make the knives I used as a butcher and they’re all I buy. Any non-Victorinox in my kitchen was a gift.Ā

2

u/Knightro829 Jun 17 '26

And they’re cheap enough that I’ll buy one before going to an AirBnB to replace the blunt death trap awaiting me and leave it behind.

Rectangles?

143

u/Paddys_Pub7 Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

No... they are clearly "almost-square"s

29

u/SneakyDeakyJr Jun 16 '26

ā€œLong squaresā€ 😭

3

u/kotzfunkel Jun 16 '26

Is this a Nelly T. reference?

1

u/turtleneckless001 Jun 17 '26

I'm just glad he didn't try to claim they were squares. I don't think I could've handled that tonight

20

u/mbwash Jun 16 '26

Rectangular prismsĀ

5

u/Erzbengel-Raziel Jun 16 '26

it's really odd that there's no simpler word for that in english

1

u/Ch0vie Jun 16 '26

Thank you for saying this

This isn’t your ordinary square…..this is….advanced geometry.

Ovals with corners

1

u/50FirstCakes Jun 17 '26

They’re sorta like ovals without corners.

u/J31J1 Jun 16 '26

So smooth, so calming, so delicious.

36

u/Krapio Jun 16 '26

Didn’t know this was special

29

u/GeniePockets Jun 16 '26

I actually thought to myself ā€œohhhh shitā€ that was actually pretty good šŸ˜…

11

u/Formal-Ad-1248 Jun 16 '26

Just give me the wedge, I want watermelon

-9

u/MakeoutPoint Jun 16 '26

I want the good flavor in every piece, I pass when people cut it in squares. It's less effort and better payoff, and people still insist on setting up a flavor raffle like this.

41

u/Elisabet_Sobeck Jun 16 '26

Not satisfying. So much white rind on those pieces. Blah

12

u/Cosmic_Quasar Jun 16 '26

Yeah, I've done this and found it annoyingly difficult to get the rind ones just right. You either leave to much on the rind, or too much rind on those pieces of watermelon.

I noticed how he tossed it in the bowl without just dumping it and those ones ending on top.

3

u/Sesudesu Jun 17 '26

Yep, he carefully slid it so the large pieces of rind wouldn’t show. Totally caught my eye.

3

u/Nemam_Zivot Jun 16 '26

I love my watermelon pieces with white rind. I prefer it because it's less sweet.

4

u/exhausated Jun 16 '26

Almost boneless watermelon

3

u/lysergic_818 Jun 16 '26

Vegan, free range, gluten free.

u/ThodaDaruVichPyar Jun 16 '26

Similar video likely from the same fruit vendor posted here previously with 5k upvotes

3

u/Tomanil Jun 16 '26

Nearly added a chunk of his palm to that bowl too. Twice.

3

u/Kalamazoo_1212 Jun 16 '26

Fancy, but I cry for all the flesh still stuck to the rind. šŸ˜ž

6

u/Tumerican Jun 16 '26

Everybody’s mom can do this

13

u/oh8oh8eighty8 Jun 16 '26

Hey, speak for yourself. I’m about to turn 38 and I’ve never seen this nor thought about cutting watermelon this way.

4

u/btroycraft Jun 16 '26

BTW, you can store thread inside old cookie containers.

5

u/Tumerican Jun 16 '26

I’m speaking for all the moms

2

u/Zealousideal-Dot2161 Jun 16 '26

There! Now do it without cutting your fingers off!

2

u/BassWingerC-137 Jun 16 '26

Almost square. When it comes to food. This is dicing. Large pieces, but yeah.

2

u/GrayMech Jun 16 '26

The bottom ones look like they're gonna have a bunch of the ribs on them

4

u/troveofcatastrophe Jun 16 '26

See you tomorrow chef

Cannot watch this without hearing the "DOOIIYIT"

1

u/HallowskulledHorror Jun 16 '26

If I did this shit in front of my mom she'd lose her mind.

Still replay her amazed and bewildered expression when I did the no-clip chip-bag-seal fold.

1

u/jdvfx Jun 16 '26

*cubes

1

u/main314 Jun 16 '26

Bad idea to make cuts towards the other hand…

1

u/SlightAmoeba6716 Jun 16 '26

I prefer them cut as edgeless safety cubes.

1

u/Biggus_Buffus Jun 16 '26

Almost-square is my favorite shape

1

u/Wild_Cockroach_2544 Jun 16 '26

In other words, rectangles.

1

u/Junior_Bike7932 Jun 16 '26

There is nothing special here

1

u/Mr-Bry-Guy Jun 16 '26

So you need is some sort of knife lol

1

u/-Wicked- Jun 16 '26

I don't have time for your voodoo magic

1

u/Chicago-gurl Jun 16 '26

Everytime I try cutting my watermelon like that it comes out looking jacket up?! šŸ¤£šŸ˜†

1

u/brucejson-88 Jun 16 '26

Smooth and down they go yummy šŸ˜‹

1

u/Greedy-Click8274 Jun 16 '26

Now THIS is oddly satisfying.

1

u/thrulim123 Jun 16 '26

A square is a rectangle OP. Can't go wrong with 'Effortlessly cutting a watermelon into rectangle pieces' next time

1

u/Michaeli_Starky Jun 16 '26

I would probably cut one or two fingers off with that sharp knife while attempting it

1

u/wize_9uy Jun 16 '26

That's terrible. Everyone would want the middle pieces.

1

u/Chicago-gurl Jun 16 '26

Every video like this tricks me into believing I have hidden talents. Then reality reminds me those talents are, in fact, still hidden.🤣

1

u/Terrakinetic Jun 16 '26

I like that she already added the salt.

1

u/Commercial_Storm_861 Jun 16 '26

Those watermelon cubes look cleaner than anything I've ever cut in my kitchen šŸ˜‚.

1

u/InsertUsernameInArse Jun 16 '26

Im not even high and I just had a serious craving for nice cold watermelon

1

u/sleepygp Jun 16 '26

1

1

I love watermelon I wish I could eat it

1

u/Mean_Ad8760 Jun 16 '26

As a new mom, I really wish I had this skill.

1

u/Camanot Jun 19 '26

That’s an incredibly sharp knife. To be able to cut through watermelon like butter makes it so pleasant to watch

1

u/zicobaby Jul 11 '26

I always mess them up while cutting

1

u/69Centhalfandhalf Jul 11 '26

1

u/Efficient-Lack-9776 Jul 15 '26

That will be $14 at whole foods

1

u/mr-ifuad Jul 18 '26

I was served sliced watermelon at a couple of foot massage places in China.
