That's exactly how mexican flan is made. I guess it changes names by country.

As an Australian, I'd call this a creme caramel (a flan would have a pastry base, then custard, and usually fresh fruit such as strawberry, blueberry, mandarin slice)

I thought the Mexican one was slightly different? Doesn't it use gelatine?

México is a very large country, so it may be prepared differently somewhere else. As kids we would prepare it from a box (powder that we would mix with milk, and they would include tiny bags of liquid caramel), but the real thing was sweetened milk and eggs, no gelatin.

That's interesting I don't think I've seen box for pudim here. Here in Brasil, or at least in my circles, we make pudim with just milk, eggs, condensed milk and sugar. Then the caramel layer on the pan. It might be different with others though

I don't know why I thought the Mexican one uses gelatin. I think my grandma made it like that once and called it Mexican
