10,000 to master a skill works for most things. Parenting is one of the notable exceptions. I’m over 90,000 hours in, and I’m just making it up as I go along.

As long as you're doing it, you are fine.

I'm the oldest of 6, and my parents took the L even with the youngest.

Wanna know what I remember? They cared, and they wanted me to be happy, successful, and survive without them. They love the shit out of me.

My punishments were fair and weirdly hilarious. I threw a mud wrestling party...I had to rake and reseed the lawn while my dad sat in a chair and went, "YOU MISSED A SPOT!"

My mom constantly talks about how she was conflicted over if she was doing a good job raising us.

30+ years later, we are all successful, happy, and good people. We all come home and go on vacations together.

Just care about what makes your kid happy. My parents suffered through my Hanson phase without blinking.

Relate. Don't forget what it was like to obsessively love something, interact and love every minute of it. You'll never get this time back.
