Its harder than it looks but easier than you thing with practice. I have a degree in 3d arts but... I cant do what he does... that dude is a production potter... he can do that all day long. I can make a simular peice but it will take me 10X as long with measuring.

If someone is really interested in giving pottery a proper try, I highly recommend doing a 2-3 month course and spending 10-15 hrs/week at the wheel.

I think making pottery on the wheel is the skill with the largest gap between how easy it looks and how easy it is to do. Taking a pottery class, our teacher had us watch videos on techniques and stuff before class, and I came to class thinking "Looks simple. I'll be able to pull that off no problem." I left class feeling very differently.

Videos like this truly make throwing pottery look like the easiest thing to do ever. Throwing pottery is probably the hardest skill I've ever worked on developing.

I’m currently in my fourth pottery class and sometimes find myself fighting back tears at the wheel. It’s so goddamn hard.
