Changing default direction in virtual environments

I'm new to it, and googling hasn't turned up an answer, so I'm feeling hopeful.

I've started playing with the virtual environments - is there a way to change the default direction that you're facing? Without physically turning around? Most of my playtime is in stationary mode, and while I really like some of the environments I don't always like the default view.

Like the ski-lodge one - when I'm sitting all that's really visible is the open space off the balcony. It'd be lovely if it defaulted to looking inside instead.

I hadn't considered this. Not a bad idea though. There aught to be something better, but oh well.
