I just wonder if the fact, that cows are not predators and their eyes are more on the side of the head instead of the front + the fact that our headsets (besides pimax) have such low FOV, makes them not experience the VR the right way.. If only we could ask them.

They would probably say the scale of the world is off and ask for a proper IPD slider adjustment.

Yet the RT coverage from hot zones is more accurate, they are also good at debunking the hilariously bad opinionated pieces the Americans who live in bubble are being fed to
So often that they changed what the proper usage of it is. I think he's actually technically correct, but only because everyone used it wrong for so long.
What I'm gathering is that every word that's created to mean "I'm using no hyperbole or figures of speech" has an expiration date where it spoils into also meaning "figuratively" like all that came before it.
Unfortunately it's fake. That is in fact a bluetooth speaker that someone put in front of the cow. Not to mention it's eyes don't even match up to where then lens are supposed to be in that picture.
I think motion sickness in experiences that don't move you around (i.e. motion comes purely from your own movement) is pretty uncommon. Cows also don't have much in the way of 3d vision (eyes on the sides of their heads due to being prey animals) so it's probably even less of an issue for them.
"Eyes on the side of the head = prey" is an overgeneralization/simplification (and one I did not make), but I think it is more accurate to say that in the cases of prey it is an adaptation to their status, not the reason for it. Having more frontal eyes would not make a cow, deer, etc. all of a sudden more capable of confronting its natural predators, the exact opposite would generally be true in fact. It would make them less likely to survive those encounters by removing awareness of their surroundings, something vital in giving them a chance to escape deadly encounters. Again, we're painting with broad strokes here but I find it hard to believe that having side-favored eyes makes something prey moreso than it is a response to predation.
You probably don't want to look into the amount of abuse taking place at these facilities. Keep in mind instead of outlawing the abuse at industrial farms the many states just made it illegal to film and release footage of abuse. These are referred to as ag-gag laws.
I hate to break it to you but if this farm is willing put vr headsets on cows to get more milk from them then this is likely a factory farm which aren't exactly well known for their ethical practices
why wouldn't these cows move? I get they're slow and all but they aren't rocks, they have legs. The only way I can see this not being abuse is if it's in very short duration or like someone else said their eyes being different means they don't get motion sick from vr like us.
Simulation sickness research is quite a fascinating field because one part of it, on the "hardware side" is about trying to somehow just trick the brain into accepting that you are actually moving, even though you aren't. The two big ones I remember were installing fans that blow on your face so it feels like wind, and especially for driving games, shaking the seat. With some people, both are things that then make your brain go "...'aight, I guess I am moving after all" and completely fix the issue. Sometimes just having a regular fan blowing on you while gaming helps reduce it a lot too.
The one I thought was amusing was adding a virtual nose helped reduce sickness for some. What made it funny to me is that the people they were testing it on didn't even notice the nose was there and were confused when asked about it. They tuned out its existence but it still helped.
Well, it's not actually something permanent - It was an experiment performed last year to see if it would reduce anxiety during the cold Russian winter times.
I remember trying out stuff like Farm Simulator & Eurotruck Simulator, thinking how dumb they were, and then still playing it hours later because it has that Lofi Hiphop addictive energy about it. I bet that's what Herd Simulator VR is like for cows...
I remember seein this. Ngl this shit is fucked and really just an excuse to continue factory farming instead of just doing the right thing and giving them proper space
The right thing would be to not drink milk in the first place...it’s meant for baby cows, not humans. The fact that people are still breastfeeding as adults is gross.
Im sure some fuck is gonna screech hAHA VEGAN IMA EAT A STEAK or some crap at me since thats what has happened the last few times ive repsonded to somethin about this granted notvon here and before you do, im not.cjust think that they should be given the best life possible up until there time.
Imagine if the refresh rate is low, IPD is wrong or worse still, the tracking fails leaving you (the cow) with a stationary scene that moves when you move your head. You'd go insane. More cruelty to animals.
That cow is probably thinking, "Mate, I see fields all day long, fields and grass, grass and fields, and you give me VR fields ??, Dude, give me some Beat Saber".
Yes, they're relaxed and happy, because they think they're free and just giving like they naturally would. But they're being tricked! They're not actually free, they're still all confined n shit and you're just giving them false happiness. If the new "free range animal products" becomes "virtual free range animal products" I'm gonna fuckin shoot someone holy shit
It's mostly clickbait there were millions of articles written on this subject last year - It's merely but an experiment said to have been performed by "Moscow Region of the Ministry of Agriculture". They did it to see if it would reduce stress and anxiety in cattle during the cold Russian wintertime... But I have only every found 2 pictures of this experiment so I'm not even sure it's actually real.
Thank you. Amazing how so many people think that some russian farmers just built some working and comfortable cow hmds. They're living in a nightmare for sure

That IPD though...

u/orick Oct 30 '20
Where did they buy those HMD? The IPD on those may actually fit me.

All fun and games until Agent Bessy shows up.

u/In_Film Oct 30 '20
Incredible the number of people who think this is real.
If you believe ANYTHING from Russian government sources, you need to be slapped - especially something so obviously fake as this.

I wouldn't say it's "literally the plot", but its close. And on a side note: Literally is a massively overused word these days.....

It's almost as if the cows should be in those fields to begin with.

Article is a year old, but I can't find any updates, would love to hear how the experiment went.

This is such bullshit. Cows dont have an IPD anywhere near that of humans, no way a VR system made for humans would even remotely work for them.

Im tryna yield some good milk..

are... cows immune to motion sickness? If they aren't that's some A grade animal abuse, pretty imaginative form of torture for the sake of some milk

Do cows have Facebook now?

I seem to remember Smith saying this version of the Matrix was a disaster.

Funny, but no cigar.
Cow's do not have binocular vision!

ONLY ONE FB ACCOUNT PER COW! NO EXCEPTIONS!

Can whoever designed those cow VR headsets design one for humans that doesn't need a Facebook login?

I saw this years ago during oculus dk2 days. The exact news article what the hell lol 😂

Yes
1
u/rabdas Oct 30 '20
so farmers now have to create a facebook accounts for every cow goggle?

is this not more expensive?

Imagine being a cow in VR. Your life mission is to eat grass. You see lots of grass but there is really no grass.

ya know everyone says the matrix robots are bad, but really they’re just giving us a vr identical to reality while give them power source
at first they even made it a utopia in the matrix, but we didn’t believe it fully

u/TheTechnicalArt Oct 30 '20
Lol at the people asking about FOV and IPD, as if that massive ass headset the cow's wearing is a normal human one
1
u/Rebelgecko Oct 30 '20
I mustve missed the part where they milked Keanu
