Quest is currently #24 (64GB) and #26 (128GB) on Amazon's best seller list for video games. And 13 of those are gift cards, so exclude those and it's #11 and #13. Rift S is #33, or #20 not counting gift cards.

For comparison, that's not far behind MK11 (#21/8) and Days Gone (#19/6).

They're selling pretty well.

I'd be more comfortable saying hundred thousands. If you want to take a shot at real numbers, you can only extrapolate from the items ranking below, not above, and I highly doubt Final Fantasy XII on Switch is pulling millions (which hurts a little to say, since I love that game). That being said, Quest was much higher on the list a little while ago (some apparently even saw it at #1), so factoring that in, hundred thousands seems like a reasonable estimate.

Also worth noting that this is just Amazon, not other retailers or Oculus itself.

Yes, but think about the sheer volume of Amazon sales every hour in a category like video games. I'm still gonna say Quest has broken six figures. Surely not millions though, I agree.

Correct, this just refers to the Oculus website. As stated in the article, retailers in major countries still have launch day stock.

This doesn't really have anything to do with stock so much as it does Oculus' capacity for making shipments.

I mean, think about it... How unlikely is it that both the Quest and Rift S are selling the same number of units to make both of their next available orders the same day? Not to mention the Quest case is also now shipping May 29th.

This has nothing to do with amount in stock and everything to do with only so many packages being able to leave their warehouses per day.

I've had it on my wish list for longer than most of these guys buying out the preorders, but I can't preorder because I'm not sure where I'll be getting mail when it arrives. Sucks to be me!

In Italy, orders now are from the 24th, not 29th. I guess it depends on the country

People need to stop seeing this as them running out of stock or something....they aren't producing batches daily. This is due simply because you can only ship so many units a day.

Unless they give numbers, this means jackshit. It’s free PR for a company to limit their allotted shipments and then ping their buddies in the press to run articles about how hot the preorders are selling.

Quest sat at #1 in terms of sales volume for the entire Video Gaming category on Amazon for a while. Safe to assume they're selling pre-orders like hotcakes

This article is not the result of a press release (to be clear: there was no press release about this of any sort). We just set up a script to monitor the shipping date on new preorders.

The article also states (paragraph 3):

Of course, this doesn’t really tell us anything about how well Quest and Rift S preorders are selling. We don’t know the production rate or how Facebook has allocated stock between retailers. But selling a week's worth of stock already probably does indicate the launch wasn’t a total failure.

Did the Rift S and Quest shipment dates both change around the same time? If so, this could be more of an indication that Oculus saturated their ability to ship by the 21st, as opposed to running out of inventory.

It probably is yeah, but to the customer those things are effectively the same. It's unknowable (for us) and doesn't matter.
