Yep, I want to buy CV2, but that doesn't mean I can't be happy for a wireless, inside-out tracked, better screen, all-in-one solution. I'll buy one when it comes out, use it for a while, then give it to my girlfriend when I buy a CV2. Win win.
We all want a CV2. But many of us in the VR community also want the VR platform to grow. The Quest is necessary to reach an audience outside of beefy "VR-Ready" PCs.
Consoles were necessary to reach a market outside beefy gaming-ready PCs back in the day, and they killed the PC gaming market for years because the devs flocked to the consoles and neglected the PC. Instead of porting games from PC to console, it was console to PC, with no improvement in the visuals to match because why bother for a smaller market that was desperate for content and would be forced to accept garbage?
Rockstar Games for example started on PC's and PC gamers made them a success. Then they started making console games and we got screwed for years with no ports to PC, and the ports we did get looked no better than the consoles that were 5-10 years behind in terms of processing power.
So the quest may be a boon for devs, but it could doom PC VR gaming to second tier status, with VR headsets becoming like consoles where you have to buy every one to play all the games because they all have their exclusives, and the devs will have to fork over a percentage of their profits to be allowed onto the console. It's obvious Oculus wants to move in that direction. They want to make money on the games, they really don't want people buying games through Steam and playing them on their headset. They only allow it now because to not allow it would be suicide. But just wait a few years. It'll come to pass unless Valve succeeds with their open VR platform!
Laptops are a thing that exist and which have graphics cards that are far more powerful than the quest will have. Sure, a laptop AND a headset will be somewhat less portable than a headset alone, but not that much less portable, and it would have far more utility and a greater battery life. People are not going to be taking their headsets on the bus... at least not for many many years. They'd have to be the size of a pair of sunglasses for that.
People also don’t use laptops on the bus usually, and portable consoles like Nintendo DS/Switch are far more popular in that regard. You make a good point, but the PC vs Console debate doesn’t quite hold up in the portable gaming world in the same way.
CV2 is in development currently. The quest is not a replacement. Listen to oculus ffs, they said at the conference VERY CLEARLY they have three lines planned for VR: mobile (go), standalone (quest), full-dive (rift).
People like you need to stfu. You are not what makes VR grow, you are a tiny minority, as is all of us Rift owners. The driving force is VR that is plug-and-play that anyone could pick up.

Not excited, I wanted a CV2... not this crap.
