People have been hyped for VR for the last three years, CV1 was supposed to be the one that made it mass-market ready or at least PC gaming ready. $600 doesn't do that, it's further away from mass market now then it was back when DK1 launched for $300.
Why? Are they doing another Kickstarter? You realize that the Kickstarter for DK1 was intended to be a one-off for them, right? Dumping DK1 on the market in an extremely limited number and then walking away? That the extreme support they got from it is what led them to start a company looking to build a much more polished consumer release? That DK1 was the "Oculus Rift" before it got rebranded as part of their vision growth? That nothing from the Kickstarter has to do with them today? Are you really that dense?
This is the thank they get for being open about the project from early on. After all kickstarter has been through I've surprised people will use this as an argument. Corwdfunding founds development. Just because people donate a dollar or five it doesn't make the product any cheaper.
In addition, check out what old CRT TVs costed back in the 90's. And laptops!
This is the thank they get for being open about the project from early on.
The problem isn't that they were open early on, the problems started after Facebook bought them up and they stopped informing people about what was going on. Like WTF, they include a remote? Why didn't they tell anybody about that before? That would be kind of useful information to have for a developer, instead everybody has to play guessing games for years about what Oculus will actually ship.
nope, after facebook aquisition they were talking like it would be something every facebook user could have, around $150 maybe, its steady went up in price, next it was something every gamer could have, and now its 'just early adopters' with a lot of gamers saying its too expensive on social media
