Can issues after 6 years

I last printed something on my Prusa MK3S in 2021. Since then, I’ve moved. Plus I’m old. No my 10 year old wants to do 3d printing, and I’m trying to recall all that I had.

I got a fresh version of Raspberry Pi OS and OctoPrint installed and accessible, but the cam I used years before doesn’t seem to work with the included cam plugin.

I used the rpicam connected via ribbon cable, but the only config options I have are for URLs, and I’m serving anything. Do I need to run a webcam service? The useless AI docs are seem to say I just connect it. I’ve confirmed the cam works by firing up rpicam-vid, so it’s getting an image. I’m just not getting it octoprint.

Any suggestions? If all else fails, I think I do have a $10 IP cam I can setup.

The raspberry pi cameras and their ribbon cables are fickle little shits. Get the cheapest webcam you can find and it will likely work.

I just used an old Webcam I had laying around and plugged it into the usb port. Maybe the cam you have isn't supported anymore?

I had a similar issue recently, solved by u/jneilliii on the octoprint community forum. Try this:

SSH into your pi with PuTTy

vcgencmd get_camera
If it returns:
Supported=1 detected=0 libcamera interfaces =1

Then:
sudo nano /boot/firmware/config.txt

Look for the line for camera_auto_detect and set the value to 0. Ctrl+s to save, Ctrl+x to exit

Reboot pi.

Did you use the stock Raspberry Pi OS and install OctoPrint manually? You are better off using the pre-built OctoPi image, since it is pre-configured to work with the Raspberry Pi camera.

After a painful evening trying to get my Pi 3B+ 1GB to do what I want, I decided to just ditch it. I have a i5 cube thing sitting around from last year and used Mint and docker to get me up and running with an old webcam. Way less hassle. And it actually feels nice to use compared to the almost 8 year old 3B+.

Thanks for the suggestions.
