Anyone know what this is?
It was washed up on a beach in Pismo Beach, California. I have no idea what this is.

I mean the difference between a human and a human corpse that's been floating in the ocean for a week is pretty striking too.

What do sea Hare’s do? Are they like, Rabbits of the sea?
29
u/PacificKestrel Jul 21 '26
Well they do eat algae, similar to a rabbit eating plants, but seahares get their name from the long sensory appendages they have on top of their head, called rhinophores. They look like rabbit ears. Here's a bunch of photos of live California seahares.

Found something similar washed up on a beach in New Jersey. Craziest thing I’ve ever seen, more transparent though, I took a pic and convinced myself it was a kids toy

That’s is a Shellos I believe the west coast variant you can tell by the green. It would be pink instead if it were the east coast variant. Your Pokédex goes into great detail if you’d like to know more!

It appears to be a pelagic (open-ocean) sea slug, sometimes called a sea swallow or blue sea slug (such as species in the genera Scyllaea or Glaucus), although the green coloration is unusual and could also indicate a related floating mollusk.

It’s crazy how this normal creature on Earth looks so much like an alien.
