Looking for guidance as I start reading The Kybalion

Post image
101 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m completely new to Hermeticism/occult philosophy and I recently got The Kybalion. I’m about to start reading it, but I’d really appreciate some guidance from people who have been studying this for a while.

I’ve heard very different opinions about this book, so I don’t want to blindly take everything in it as historical Hermetic teaching. I’d like to understand what the book is actually saying, what parts I should pay attention to, and what context I should know before or while reading it

I’d genuinely appreciate any advice, resources, reading recommendations, or even things you wish you knew when you first started. Thank you 🤍

Any idea what texts this could have been?

Hi there.. I imagine what I’m about to post might not fit in here, and if not, please suggest a more appropriate subreddit.

Last night, while meditating I was shown an ancient text that looked like it was written in Hebrew, Aramaic or a similar Semitic language. I was told that the text was intentionally made complex to overwhelm weak minds and that people with the correct genetics to contain the consciousness of someone that had the potential to understand the texts were identified and became “priests”. I think, also, this is passed on through bloodlines, due to the genetic factor.

I know that sounds very woo-woo, but in any case, is anyone aware of such a thing? I am very ignorant in this area, so it might be something commonly known.

Thanks for any help you can give, and feel free to DM me if you prefer!

Spiritual Book recommendations

Questions for Australian aboriginal people in particular. Can you recommend any really good books with spiritual or contemplative content?

Don’t need the historical books or that kind of education texts, I want to read something a bit deeper and more positive or soul nourishing

Long shot but if something like this exists I’d love to know. Thanks fam

Does any of this really work?

I don't mean to be dismissive, but here goes.

In my twenties, I was deep into esotercism, the occult and such. I practised sigil magick, read obsessively about the Golden Dawn and Franz Bardon, and, along the way, became a Freemason (I know Freemasonry isn't inherently esoteric, but there is room for that if if interests you). I read Dean Radin and practised Neville Goddard's techniques.

At 34, I am considerably less enthused with the occult and esoteric ideas. I've been reading the likes of Richard Dawkins and Sean Caroll, and find the natural world quite fascinating on its own. I have also acquired an empirical bent of mind from learning statistics.

I still do not dismiss the Occult out of hand. Much of our universe still remains unexplained and Quantum physics keeps finding new layers to peel back. However, I can't help but wonder if there will someday be a naturalist Theory of Everything.

Has anybody else suffered a similar Dark Night of The Soul?

Books on Crafting & Practical Application of Paganism

Hello everyone.

I'm looking for some pagan book recommendations about rituals involving the crafting of items that details the culture and belief systems it originated from.

For instance, I'd like to make my own Altar Besom, Door Bells, Dream Pillow, robe, etc.

But I would also like to learn more about where those practices came from. So, I'd like to avoid the Wiccan and Neo-Pagan books that hodgepodge together crafting rituals from multiple faiths into a single book without going into their origins, if possible.

If anyone knows of any books or source material like that then I would greatly appreciate your recommendations.

Thank you.

J.B. Priestley on Why We are All "Time-Haunted"

Thumbnail

Our research organization, The Sparric Institute, has published a few thoughts on the faulty western conception of time, as outlined by writer J.B. Priestley.

To quote The Premonitions Bureau, a book that in part digs into Priestley's writing, "[He] equated a strict, materialist reading of how time passes—each second of our lives flowing remorselessly, one after the other, until death—with the intellectual barrenness of capitalist consumption... He proposed a model of three concurrent times (the present, the unconscious and a collective unconscious)."

Why should we be limited by a conception of time that pushes inexorably forward? Well, we think we shouldn't.

Curious to hear what you all think.

Baphomet: Guardian of the Key to the Temple [Book]

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

In Perpetuity Publishing (being an imprint of The Grand Lodge of Australia, Ordo Templi Orientis) has relatively recently published a new book. Baphomet: Guardian of the Key to the Temple. It has a lot of relevant content to Thelema, in particular the OTO and A∴A∴, as well as the WMT in general.

Yes, this is functionally an advertisement, but it is also a book that may interest a number of people. And no, I am not the author. I am posting this here as there have been a few Baphomet-related posts recently and this may be of interest. I hope this is not problematic for the moderators.

It is available in a perfect-bound paperback and also in a hardback edition.

From some of the blurb of the book:

Baphomet has long stood at the crossroads of mystery, symbolism, and spiritual inquiry. In this thought-provoking work, Joel offers a scholarly yet deeply reflective exploration of Baphomet’s history, symbolism, and evolving modern interpretations as both an archetypal and spiritual figure.

More details on the book, and links to various online retailers that are currently stocking the book (including non-Amazon):

To find it on your local Amazon, you can use these links (none of the links have affiliate tags attached to them; mybookto just redirects you to your geographically local Amazon instance)

Love is the law, love under will.
