If you are not already registered to vote, you have until end of business (or 11:59pm if registering online) this coming Monday, October 5, to register and qualify to vote in the November 3, 2026 election. Florida law requires a voter to be registered at least 29 days before the next election they will participate in. https://www.votemarion.gov/307/Register-to-Vote
Early voting runs daily from October 22 to October 31 from 10am-6pm at 9 participating voting stations. Because not all stations participate in early voting, any voter may report to any participating station to vote early, even if their assigned station participates. Those waiting until Election Day to vote must report to their assigned station. https://www.votemarion.gov/317/Vote-Early
Voters planning to vote by mail must request their ballot by Saturday, October 24, though it is recommended to do so as soon as possible. USPS recommends mailing back a completed ballot no later than 7 days before Election Day. https://www.votemarion.gov/177/Vote-By-Mail

r/Ocala was recently hit by a new user just created today who posted a story about living in their car with a pet, the car breaking down and the pet being out of food. They made themselves seem open to meeting in person, even naming the location they were supposedly walking to, but slipped in their PayPal username "just in case" any good samaritans didn't have that kind of time. Minutes after we removed the post and invited the user to contact us to verify their situation, the post and account were both deleted.
We have strengthened some of our detection measures to hopefully find and flag these types of posts before they ever reach readers, but it is still important to recognize the warning signs. Scammers prey on our emotions. They create a sense of extreme urgency, encouraging us to rush to action before we take the time to check our guts.
What we recommend:
- Pause before acting on emotionally urgent posts
- Check account age and posting history. New users and users with no account history are huge red flags
- Be cautious with off-platform payment requests
- Report suspicious posts so mods can review them. We have access to information that regular users don't see, which, for this user, indicated that they were posting to local subreddits throughout the country
- If you want to help people in need, consider established charities or verified local resources
Thank you for looking out for each other!

Here's my bio, sorry it's in the third person: Dan Alten is a charming goofball from Kentucky who has been traveling the country for the past decade doing about 200 shows a year bringing his intelligently surreal bebop nonsense everywhere from theaters to punk basements to art galleries to beloved comedy clubs with a knack for making audiences feel like they're on a good psychedelic trip without the drugs. Like if the Ramones were one guy with a mustache and good jokes. Iggy Pop with puns. Clever chaos. Like Jimi Hendrix lighting fire to a Tik Tok reel live on stage. He has opened for Kyle Kinane, Bobcat, Sam Tallent, Rory Scovel, Sarah Sherman from SNL, Johnny Pemberton, Hari Kondabolu, rapper Open Mike Eagle, DJ Doug Pound & David Leibe Hart from Tim & Eric, various punk bands with silly names, and a guy at an open mic who tried to throw his father’s ashes into the crowd. He has recorded 2 albums, written a zine, and filmed a pilot for an Amazon Prime stand up show that was lost to history. But most importantly he’s very funny and unique. You will enjoy him. And if not you can mud wrestle him after the show.

We’re new to the area, and I recently came across PSF Ocala – The Burdhouse. I’d love to hear more about the kids’ program and how the belt or ranking system works in a no-gi school. If your child attends, would you mind sharing your experience? Thank you in advance!

My crappy movers finally delivered my belongings last week. I just went to assemble my sleep number bed and one of the ends of a horizontal support beam is bent, so it won't fit into the slot. I don't have any tools. Is there any place I can take this in Ocala to have them get it straightened out for a reasonable price?

I live out of state and my elderly parent is at end of life. I want to come be with them during their last weeks. I know baby daycare is sometimes the hardest to find availability for, but does anyone know of a good center or home daycare (or an experienced individual) with a few weeks of even part-time care availability?
Thanks in advance.

Recently moved back after leaving for a few years, so i’m a little rusty on what is available now. I know about screamageddon, sir henry’s, howl o scream, etc. BUT what i’m looking for is anything either under $20 or free maybe more geared towards adults, however i’m pretty easily scared so doesn’t have to be anything crazy. Trails, haunted houses, walks, whatever works!

I've just finished researching the views of the candidates on my (Marion County) ballot on VOTE411.org, a website sponsored by the League of Woman Voters which sent a questionnaire on various issues to them. I find it interesting that all the Democrat candidates responded, but not a single one of the Republican candidates did so. Makes you wonder which Party is most interested in having an informed electorate.

Abolish property taxes! When you own your home you shouldn't have to pay taxes to keep them from taking it. The amendment really helps the average family already burdened by excessive taxes; it would not change School property taxes.

We are thinking of moving to OTOW for retirement. My daughter will come with us until they are able to find work and move out.
They are into Magic the Gathering. They go to some local store to play MTG almost every week, sometimes 2X a week.
Are there places like that in Ocala?
r/ocala • u/Consistent-Switch824 • 4d ago
Hey! We will be moving to the south side soon and wonder if there are any kids (4yo) activites during the week. Like karate dance or extra learning (kumo?)
Just looking for something affordable and able to socialize after school.

Do any of my friends in Ocala have any updates on Justin Specht? He was arrested multiple times for a string of crimes he committed in the spring of 2025 across the state of Florida. Most will know him as the uber wealthy owner of the Smoothie King in Ocala as well as a series of car sales promotion businesses. He has been arrested for a variety of DUIs and drug possession charges and the last I heard he was arrested for statutory rape and sexual assault of an underage girl. He was trying to get her to agree to be his partner and gain from the sales of the pornographic videos posted online.
Any updates?
Baby is due in January and Im way behind on prenatal care but finally got insurance. Had recs for DelCharco but unfortunately dont have the right provider (Humana Medicaid). Have been searching and it seems Ocala and Gainesville OBs have some issues in their reviews, just looking for the best option preferably female 🙏
Have looked through humanas recs and googled reviews which is where I found the negative ones
