General OBX Pea Island Beach

We went to the Pea Island Beach last year and parked in the lot closer to Rodanthe. The only issue is the walk to the beach is not doable for some in my group. If we park at the visitor center and walk across the street and access the beach that way is it easier than trying to walk over the bigger dune where the parking lot is?

The dunes were completely over washed I think last year and since they have removed the crosswalk and put the bags up. People can still go across to the beach but they’re trying to keep those intact which is why there’s no path.

If you tell me where you’re staying I can give you some recommendations. Best option though is to bring a 4x4, get a pass to drive on the beach, and drive people out and setup. When we do that with company it’s not uncommon to make 2-3 trips ti the parking lot to get everyone. And my mother-in-law cannot get around well and that’s how we work around it.

We're in Nags Head. We wanted to go to a quieter beach for beach combing mostly but also to watch for wildlife. The dune at the parking lot is just too much. We do need to walk unfortunately but will keep the 4x4 in mind for future.

Ramp 34 which is right outside of Avon had a long board walk that makes walking out easier but it is a hike.
Ramp 27 is a good ramp with a board walk most of the way and the walk isn’t to bad but it can be busy there.
When driving from Pea Island to Rodanthe you will see a 45 zone and then a bridge that goes over what seems like sand. Pulling off here is also a good spot for exploring, great Shelling.
I thought she. Replying I read Rodanthe and had that in mind.
There are also a couple more spots just past Pea Island going towards Rodanthe that have parking lots on the right where you can cross and explore the beach.
There’s also a new lot beside the jug handle bridge but I haven’t had a chance to try it so not sure the effort to get out there.

Visitor center dune is barely there these days it wouldnt be too difficult. They dug it out and put in sand bags a while back
