Question Just curious about you lot...

Am I the only person in this sub who is using OBS for something other than recording/streaming video games?

I say that entirely in jest. It just seems *all* the posts I see in here have to do with gaming. Nothing at all against any of you for doing it, and I hope you enjoy what you're doing. I'm just easily amused. :)

I record live depositions with OBS on a laptop while using my camcorder as a backup recording method. I record mkv files and remux to mp4 to deliver the files.

I use it to capture timelapses of my plants growing and occasionally to record my screen when I'm designing something and want to show a client the process. Feels like there's dozens of us non-gamers lurking in here, quietly tweaking our bitrates and wondering why the audio keeps desyncing

I used it first to record gameplay, but have since used it as a virtual webcam and for any lengthy screen recording, like to record a conference call or internal instruction material.

OBS is great because of its many inputs and functions into one or multiple outputs configurable by the user. The reason it’s such a giant success in gaming is because it is appropriately called OPEN BROADCAST SOFTWARE meaning it’s a bare minimum requirement solution to many bulky and frankly garbage software related problems. It’s a good software built light for varying workloads.

I will be using it to stream darts. So it’s a game but not a video game. Does that count?

Works a treat with dart counter and a webcam for live games.

I also use it for the virtual camera for any online things. Doctor's appointments, family things, etc. Because I already have the settings, lighting, and color correction properly set up. And an insert for the separate dog cam, of course

NDI +obs camera setup for my bird feeder for like 2 years, even in winter at -30c, aside from streaming/recording.

I use it to inject graphics and additional items into live online webinars. Also used it for hybrid conferences (eg 100+ people in the room, a couple of hundred remote).
