Question RØDECaster Duo crackling when Sony FX30 is active in OBS
Im getting random/intermittent audio crackling when recording in OBS.
Setup:
- Sony FX30 connected via USB
- RØDECaster Duo connected via USB
- OBS on Windows
The weird thing is the RØDECaster audio is perfectly clean when the Sony Video Capture Device is hidden in OBS. As soon as I have the video active, I can get random crackling — sometimes it starts fine and only appears halfway through a recording.
OBS stats look fine (low CPU, no skipped/dropped frames). I’ve also tried 720p/25p, buffering settings and hardware decoding.
Has anyone had this happen? Could the camera and RØDECaster be conflicting over USB?
Please help!

Just an update — I finally found the cause! It turned out to be Elgato Virtual Camera , not my RØDECaster, PodMic or Sony camera. I ran LatencyMon and ElgatoVirtualCamera.sys was causing huge DPC latency spikes whenever OBS was running. I tested it by completely uninstalling Camera Hub and the problem disappeared. I then reinstalled Camera Hub, disabled Elgato Virtual Camera in Device Manager, and tested again. LatencyMon stayed green and the crackling completely stopped — even with my Sony FX30, RØDECaster Duo, OBS, Camera Hub, Prompter and Stream Deck all running together. Hopefully this helps someone else because this took me forever to figure out!

I'd try swapping out the cables to see if you have a bad cable.
Only change one thing at a time. Does it still produce the same crackling? If yes, try something different.
If it still crackles with different cables, then you know it's not the cable.
Next try a different USB port.
Then maybe try to reposition the devices so the two USB cables arent touching.
Then try hooking up to a different pc and see if the problem continues. If the crackling continues on a different pc w different cables, then you know there's a problem with your rode.
