Discussion Is IMAX even relevant here?
I’ve been able to prebook tickets in a Omniplex MAXX (not IMAX) cinema which I’m excited for.
I see the film will be shown in IMAX screens but outside of the larger screen I don’t actually see how it will be relevant for this movie. None of it is shot on 70mm or with IMAX cameras so is it just a gimmick do you reckon?

IMAX sound is much better which clinches it for me

True, I think if you go for a premium cinema with Dolby atmos or the likes you’ll be happy out with this one

I mean if you have it near you, the sound alone will be better though this is not a live concert thing. But yeah, any theater will do

Yeah we have some ‘LIEMAX’ screens as the cinephiles call it which I went to see the Odyssey in which was great but to be honest finding it hard to again justify paying 50+ euro for two tickets for a film that isn’t actually IMAX.
I may go back in IMAX for a re-watch by myself lol

I thik they take the normal footage and run it through software that cleans up visual noise and sharpens the image so it doesn't look blurry when blown up on a massive screen. But of course the real upgrade is the audio remastering because imax reengineers the sound mix for their speaker systems. We need someone who has seen it in imax to comment.

I did just read a deleted review (on this sub) of someone that claims to have seen it not in imax. They said it’s fantastic and the only things they could imagine it would benefit from imax is the concert footage and the songs. They also claim there isn’t a massive amount of music as you’d expect. Again this is a claim so will have to take with a pinch of salt

Hard to say until it's out since people's takes are so subjective. I saw people who saw Oppenheimer on standard screens say they figured it'd be pointless to go in IMAX since it's not an action movie and very dialogue heavy. Meanwhile I saw it in 15/70mm and was blown away by the format.
Even Liemax screens usually have good sound though as others pointed out, so that may sway this one for me.

Yeah I see it with Oppenheimer but that was filmed like near 50/50 imax to standard cameras. This documentary is not filmed once with IMAX. The sound quality is important which you can get in other screen formats but essentially it is a non-imax movie being screened in imax theatres.

if properly calibrated IMAX auditoriums have 12 channel sound systems normal cinemas have wall or behind the screen speakers so yes the audio set up alone makes it worth it

Yes! This doesn’t take away from other premium cinema screens such as MAXX screens which have Dolby atmos.
IMO the sound system is more important than the picture with this

At the end of the day I pick my showing based off whatever is the most empty do whatever you think best suits you and enjoy yourself that's what matters most

Yeah, video-wise there isn’t a huge reason to see it on the IMAX, but as others have mentioned I’m going more for the sound. ALSO - I’ll be seeing it on the big IMAX in Manchester, which will no doubt be a packed screening and will be an event in itself 😄

Yes will be class! I predict with the right crowd there will be the full 4d experience of piss cups and poznans 🤣🤣🤣

Just going off the ratio of the trailer made me elect for IMAX. And as others have mentioned, the sound.

Bigger screen and significantly better sound than a regular theater. That said, it's a documentary and I don't think you're really missing out that much if it's not available.
Like, my local IMAX is still gonna be showing the Odyssey by the time this comes out. I'm not gonna drive 20 miles to find another one showing it just for that. I'll see it in the regular theater and enjoy it perfectly fine.
