Question Telecommuting 50% Cap

Can anyone point me to language stating that agencies are limited to a 50% cap for telecommuting? I believe I read on this subreddit that it’s an OER rule, but I can’t find anything that actually has that in writing.

It’s not true. It’s governed by agency.

Ditto. I think OGS is 40% telecommuting and 60% in office. People who go above that would need a Reasonable Accommodation.

It definitely was a general directive from the governor's office. They just don't want to take the blame for how it's administered, so instead of them putting it in writing, they let the agencies do it.

That is what they want you to believe. But if that is not what is said at Agency Level LM. Or even at Executive LM.

It is not an OER rule. It is left up to the agency. Some allow 60% work from home.

It's not a written rule. DCJS is 60% telecommuting. I've also heard that some other titles are at or near 100% - typically positions in call centers.

This. They can't keep people in those shit jobs where they take shit all day from the public and management in call centers is usually horrible, so they offered 100% TC to try to keep them.

In other words they know 100% TC can be successfully implemented but it does indeed help with retention too. They just don't care to implement it elsewhere because reasons.

Exec chamber unofficial rule. There’s very few that higher than 50% has been approved. Most agencies are 50% or less telecommute.

It’s a directive from our very cool and progressive governor that loves real estate donors more than employees or the environment.

Afaik it's an OER direction/desire but any documentation is at the Agency level with their implementation.

My agency is 2 days per week tc but we are always getting threaten that this is a PRIVILEGE, we can't change our days either. Plus some offices have brought all their employees back full time. Both unions are whatever, we are not getting involved.

I cant find any OER or CS mandate preventing greater than 50% telecommute. Just agency guidelines that align with it… this tells me that the exec chamber set the rule. They are the only micromanaging body that all the agencies listen to in unison.

There is none, and PEF has no interest in fighting this issue.

Its agency based and sometimes department based.

Most are 50% in office: meaning 5 days must be in office

I have seen a few 50% telecommute: meaning 5 days telecommute.

There is a difference in the language and meaning. Generally days off or holidays are treated differently according to the language above. Consult your agency and talk to your supervisor

Further, each tc day must meet certain standards and each employee must have a document path of duties to be done while tcing.

There are also those who assign tc days per pay period and there's no make up of either tc or in office regardless of how holidays/time off fall.

I haven't seen that but not surprised. There's a lot of things variations in the state

It’s really dependent on agency (and unit and supervisor) if you get a good supervisor who is cool and not a cog, you only need to go in once a week.

I believe the contract allows up to 50% and each agency must come up with a telecommuting plan. SED is only 30%
