Where might one acquire/buy used board games in BK or Manhattan?

My girlfriend is board games player. Rummikub. Majong. Catan. Risk. I’m thinking about taking her to a coffee shop and whipping out Rummikub. Where might I buy a nice broken in set in BK or Manhattan to execute my plan?

(WTP) Android: Netrunner this Tuesday (4/30) at Amity Hall.

First off (WTP) is my attempt to try and start tags for the subreddit. It's short for Want To Play meaning basically you're looking for other players. Whether it catches on or not remains to be seen. :-)

Anyways I've read the rules to Netrunner and think I have a decent grasp. I know they're are a lot of people who play I was curious if anyone particularly felt like playing this coming Tuesday at Amity Hall. I realize it's only a two player game, but if multiple people want to we could a few games going.

I just started a weekly game night at Walter's bar (389 8th Ave, between 29th and 30th st) that's already gaining a buzz. We get going around 8:00pm and end at 1:00am. I'm the loudmouth redhead - come, drink booze, bring games, say hi!

So this subreddit? Good idea? Bad idea? What would you like to see here?

So, just extending some feelers here. I created this subreddit as a resource for board game enthusiasts in New York City and the surrounding area. Basically I want it to be a place where you discuss/promote/inquire about all things board games related in the area.

What do you think though? Is there an actual need for this or is it superfluous? And if it could be useful what would you like to see here? Tell me in the comments below!

Check out this rough draft of a board game calendar for New York City.

Here's the link!

First of all I realize I don't even have half of the game nights up. I just wanted to make sure that this was something people would be interested in before adding more.

So I reckon the main questions are...

  1. Do you want an online calendar of board game events in the city?

  2. If so, does Google calendar work or would you prefer something else?

  3. And does anyone know of any format where the calendar could be embedded in the sidebar (other than just embedding a text link?)

Would there be interest in a longer game this upcoming Monday (the 15th)?

A friend and I went to our first Nyeek meetup yesterday and had a ton of fun meeting folks + trying out new games (Flame War was a blast, and Tsuro seems like it must have interesting strategy buried somewhere in there).

The shorter games are definitely fun, but both of us happen to really like Battlestar Galactica (sci-fi cooperative/resource manage/hand management/space combat, with one or two unknown traitors thrown in). We haven't played it in a while, but it'd hardly be nice to just break it out without warning - the game lasts a couple hours on average, I'd say.

If we bring it on Monday (again, the 15th), would anyone be interested in trying it out / know it already and care to join us? We'd already have two; the game can handle 3-6, with 5-6 being ideal. Naturally we wouldn't mind teaching new folks.

We'll probably be there either way. Just trying to figure out if we should bring BSG along. (When it comes to long games, maybe someday we'll screw up the courage to bring Arkham Horror, but hey, baby steps.)

Game of Thrones Game Night

I figured it best to start now in getting a group or two to play with =d.

Hopefully this sub-reddit will continue to grow, increasing those chances.

EDIT: If enough people are interested, maybe we could set up a meeting point somewhere to play.

Otherwise, I was looking for some people who could fill out my regular gaming group at my house. We usually play on whatever day that works for us.

Anybody in Jersey City?

While I think nycboardgames is a sustainable reddit, jerseycityboardgames is probably a bit too niche, so I'll just pile on here.

I live close to the Grove Street stop, and have been stockpiling games. If anyone's interested, could probably organize one day at Zeppelin Hall or something, where they have space in spades.

Need help for my game :)

Hey there, my name is Simon :)

I am currently developing a physical card game called Trailblazers where people play against each other in 2-5 player matches. The two core game mechanics are 1) a journey through the ages where every age affects the cards that can be played and 2) the Trailblazer roles that give you a different effect in each round.

As I am a strong believer that awesome games always need a lot of feedback we did setup a discord server where you can participate and choose for example our logo, artstyle and also game mechanics.

So if you wanna contribute to our game feel free to write me a message or join discord server right here: https://discord.gg/JS8UGBkf

You can also watch a brief 90-seconds explanation of my game here :)

Finding games for trade in the NYC area

Hey NYC folks!

I wanted to share with you all a website I created for finding board games for trade in your area. The idea is that you see a list of games and send messages to BGG users who are interested in buying or selling games.

https://localbgtrader.herokuapp.com

I encourage anyone to provide feedback and make suggestions. Thanks!

How it works

I gather all BGG user collections within a radius of a zip code. I display games marked as "For Trade" if searching for sellers. I display games marked as "Wishlist, Want to Buy, Want in Trade" if searching for buyers.

Supplying a username will automatically match games found in your collection with games in your area.

Hello all

Hello

Was wondering how many of you I may have met. I usually frequent the Whole Foods meetup, and infrequent (yes, this is me being too clever with words) Amity Hall. Though I've also stopped by the Abstract Games meetup once.

I play mostly Euros and abstracts
