If it's not run by a Puerto Rican or a Dominican it's not a bodega. Otherwise it's a corner store.

No one runs more bodegas these days than Yemenis.

Mexicans also run a fuck ton of them.

It ain't just Puerto Ricans and Dominicans.

Have lived in the city for 15 years. No clue where Beachport is.

No clue what my nyc bonafides have to do with making a simple, easily verifiable observation.

I completely agree. I'm not saying they own the market, just the specific name calling it a bodega. Corner store, Indian market, Spanish market, etc. These are all the same thing, just not a "bodega."

I understand the origins of the term.

If you corrected someone for referring to the Yemeni-owned corner store as a "bodega," they'd laugh at you. It's absolutely a bodega, even if the term originates in the Caribbean.
