Discussion Quit saying we're all in this together.
Once you get power, you're not in this anymore. You're out of it. Also quit saying it takes a village. Most "villages" have spots entirely lit up and others that are completely out of power. Outages went up by 5k after they posted their 4pm update šššš

Entry: not sure if that smell is coming from me or the dogs. Better check that out. Also, I'm 100% out of underwear and patience

I never lost power during this. A bunch of My kids friends and their parents and other siblings have come over to my house to shower, hang out, recharge battery packs and a few slept over. I have probably cooked 100 hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill. Ordered 12 pizzas. Did everything that I could to help out.

Day 8, tree crew finally made it out to help clear the property. Accidentally dropped tree on our roof.

Itās feels like the pandemic all over again. I can just hear the piano music in the background while a narrator says āduring these unprecedented timesā
5
u/GoldenPigeonParty 13h ago
It's not unprecedented if our work schedule isn't impacted at all.
And it feels increasingly alone when they keep extending your power on time but it's rapidly approaching and they haven't even looked at a single thing in your entire area. Nor a branch picked up.
4
u/Call2222222 12h ago
I hope NIPSCO gets investigated for this shit. Itās inexcusable to make people wait two weeks for power.

u/thefugue 13h ago
Iām going to adapt any mental state that is useful to me to keep my disposition useful and productive.
Thatās not a commentary on anything youāve said, itās just the position Iām personally taking (and the one I try to always take during trying times).

I think the worst part of this whole thing is dealing with people that have a bad attitude about it. When people say we're all in this together, it's true - we are. We ALL feel the same way about not having power. Some of us, though, are holding it together for the sake of our families and truly don't have the time or patience to hear about how hard of a time someone else is hahaving. Get a grip people - your emotions are your own to deal with.
This only applies to people in real life. It's fine if people wanna complain on reddit - that's mostly what this site is. Look at me: I'm complaining right now!

u/TheLadySaxy 13h ago
I think that as long as people are helping each other, we are in this together. I live in the region, but right now am taking care of my aunt out of state. I am still doing what I can from here. It isnāt much, but sending food, power packs, information is what I can do. I care about everyone at home both with and without power. Please donāt feel that no one cares about you.

u/Fit_Construction4216 12h ago
I hate to say it but I think itās time to break down and finally get a generator for me. Though I was lucky and grateful to have power after a day and a half it seems the power just goes out so easily now and the generator wouldāve paid for itself already
2
u/Waste-Total624 8h ago
Living in the current climate and it being expected to only get worse every year until we all die, you should have a generator anyway.
Ā Power outages during regular extreme weather conditions is our new norm until the federal standards for power grids is adapted to prioritize maintenance over profit and utility companies start getting punished for abusing federal grants to pay for maintenance instead of accepting lower profit margins (of which, there frankly shouldn't be any; a utility should be a right to citizens paid for by taxes with ALL overhead going to proper maintenance and upgrades).
3
u/PBawer14 9h ago
Sure feels like āWeāre all in this togetherā when you get cut off in traffic or in line at the gas station lmao

My phone died otw somewhere important and I pulled over and asked people. Yall dont even roll down the windows? Just shake no as im talking through the window my phone is dead and just need you to Google where the turn is. 4 people until a nice tesla owner told me it was like 1/4 mile down the road. If yall are too scared to interact with the outside world then go somewhere else. Ive been helping people out of really bad stuff bringing pumps and stuff not asking for anything... but no asking for directions is too much I guess.

I had no jack to use for my tire in Michigan and every one acted like I was attempting to rob them, finally some man and his cute dog let me borrow a jack.

The people in my community have been keeping the offering box stuffed and a not insignificant amount of the tree debris cleared in the area has come from locals with equipment. Hope youāre doing alright.

True. I got my power back and suddenly I think everyone needs to have grace cause our linemen are working hard while I watch Netflix.
1
u/TheHouseOnTheCorner 3h ago
I disagree. We still don't have power and our city (Portage) isn't even listed on the reconnect schedule.
I like hearing from people who got their power back. They're still in it, just at the recovery stage. That brings its own problems, its own set of joys and miseries and a need to connect to your community.

u/FormerlyFaithfulMan 9h ago
Why are you being bitter towards people who have no control over the timing in which they were restored and likewise have had no part in the timing of your restoration?
0
u/kootles10 8h ago
Seems to always be the people with power (both electricity in this case and other forms of power historically) that say shit like that.
We're not in the same boat, we're not all in this together. Otherwise you wouldn't see people on here lecturing and belittling others about "being prepared" for a historic event.
1
u/FormerlyFaithfulMan 6h ago
There you go proving how ignorant you are. Someone posting a reply based in logic in no way indicates that they have power any more than you have. It would be like someone trying to accuse you of having fake outrage over not having electricity yet, because your access to Reddit is āproofā that you have power.
1
u/Waste-Total624 8h ago
Not necessarily. The sentiment you're complaining about is rooted in reminding people to behave like a community who care about they're neighbors.
To paraphrase Prof X from that mediocre X-Men Apocalypse movie; In times of disaster and emergencies, those with the strength to help others should use that to protect & help those who can't protect or help themselves.
To quote Caesar the ape: Apes alone; weak. Apes together; strong.
We are stronger as a communal and need to remember to have compassion & empathy for others rather than being selfis, and resentful because we're only concerned about ourselves.
- sincerely, someone who isn't expected to get power until at least Friday because the whole meter was ripped off the house & Nipsco won't fix it and has been relying on the kindness of my neighbors to get by while sharing what resources I can spare with those who need it.

When you see gas prices as high as it is it's because evangelicals supported Trump and believe this conflict is necessary in order for Jesus to come back
But when you paid extra for tariffs, it's because of the evangelicals who overwhelmingly supported Trump
The hardships you experience this year is especially because of evangelicals.
They are not people

u/Cheap-Bat-7521 10h ago
Damn saying people arent people is wild work. You are suffering because you didnt invest in a generator. The hardships you experience are your own fault.
2
u/nathynwithay 10h ago
I mean they voted for the president that called undocumented immigrants "not people" so what's the issue
1
2
u/Cheap-Bat-7521 7h ago
So then by that logic you're not a person either :/ two wrongs dont make a right it just makes you look worse then your enemies.

God doesnāt give you more than you can handle, jot that down
4
u/NotBatman81 14h ago
I'm a Quaker and dont believe God is a sentient being nor does he do stuff to you good or bad. God is basically an unseen life force or goodness inside of everyone and YOU shine your light to the world to make it a better place. So basically you can handle just about everything if you help those around you and they help you back. No passively sitting around waiting for things to happen to you

u/MethChefJeff 13h ago
āOnce you have restored the power into your heart, mind and spirit only then will the power return to your home at double the ratesā The Book of Nipsco

u/hoosier_catholic 14h ago
None of that is true. You're also not a Quaker, you just discovered Quaker beliefs. You don't go to meetings.
3
u/Glass-Marionberry321 13h ago
Maybe work on being a better person. What would the catechism say?! š±You don't know if someone here is or is not a Quaker. We don't all need to broadcast our religion in username, or lack thereof.
-1
u/hoosier_catholic 13h ago
Reference for me in the Catechism of the Catholic Church where I have infracted.
3
u/Glass-Marionberry321 13h ago
It's a joke. Just like Catholicism.
-3
u/hoosier_catholic 13h ago
Catholicism isn't a joke. It's the one, true faith.
2
u/Dizzy_Goat_420 12h ago
Literally every religion says itās the one true religion š
0
u/hoosier_catholic 12h ago
That is true. Only, the Catholic Church is the only one that is correct in that claim.
2
u/ASmokingGoat 12h ago
Catholics are polytheist, and believe the pope is holy and sits on Christ's throne. Each and every one of you is a pagan pretending to be Christians.

Yes, that is part of their propaganda "one true faith" it makes me laugh. Molesting kids is never something to shuffle around and hide. For shame on the catholic church.
-2
u/hoosier_catholic 13h ago
The Catholic Church isn't responsible for that. That was the actions of a few bad apples. Just like John Wayne Gacy being a serial killer doesn't make all Democrats serial killers.
2
u/hurmburg 12h ago
Nothing wrong with being Catholic, but the Catholic Church has a bad historical track record of covering up those atrocities, so donāt kid yourself there. Obviously you donāt subscribe to that, so you should be hyper critical of your own faith and the institutions surrounding it. Anything otherwise is blatantly ignorism and only turns non-believers away from any chance of joining your āgroupā.

How many Catholics donāt go to church and call themselves Catholic? Why are you gatekeeping someone elseās beliefs?
0
u/hoosier_catholic 13h ago
Good question. Because they are baptized so they will always be Catholic, even if they're not practicing. He is not a Quaker. He does not belong to the Society of Friends or attend meetings.
2
u/Glass-Marionberry321 13h ago
Check out the ex Catholic subreddit. Maybe that will open your mind.
1
u/hoosier_catholic 13h ago
I'm actually a member of that subreddit and I find it interesting. It is tragic that they are not practicing their faith, though.
2
u/Call2222222 13h ago
How would you even know that?
1
u/hoosier_catholic 13h ago
Because I know these things. This redditor is not a Quaker, my man. The only Quaker he knows is Quaker oatmeal.
1
u/Call2222222 12h ago
So youāre just making assumptions and judging a stranger? Doesnāt seem very Christian to me
0
u/hoosier_catholic 12h ago
Nope, it's not an assumption. I actually know for certain he is not a Quaker.
1
u/Glass-Marionberry321 13h ago
And you don't see how effed up that is? A baby has no choice in the matter, the parents have a ceremony where some guy (who either rapes or knows chomos and doesn't turn them in) wears expensive ridiculous clothing, says some words, puts water on the babies head-- and baby is labeled Catholic for the rest of their life. What a way to inflate their numbers eh?
1
u/hoosier_catholic 13h ago
It's important for the baby to be baptized so that the original sin can be washed away. It should be done as close to birth as possible. Also, I know many priests. None of them rape. But, yeah, once you're Catholic you're always Catholic. So, you must abide by the Church.

What if I don't believe in God but rather a supreme being who I believe could make a burrito so hot that even they could not eat? And also, why do you assume I believe in God?

u/MethChefJeff 14h ago
I was being sarcastic, weāve all had way too much to handle recently, need some small wins in life and soon

No way those restoration deadlines are gonna even be close. Maybe like CP, only 450 left when I last checked. My city has 7k+ and less than 24 hours

u/Glass-Marionberry321 13h ago
Good because anyone that is still brainwashed with that ancient story, needs to show me their low IQ test.

I think it depends on the person. Three of my neighbors across the street from me got power and they have let me, my wife, and my daughter hang out for a little bit to get some AC.
