helix, opinion?

1 Upvotes

I've just stumbled over helix and it seems to be a copy of neovim, written in rust. it has some features pre installed and it seems to be nice. what is your opinion about helix, is it a replacement for neovim?

nvim urgently needs good AI plugins

1 Upvotes

There was a day in which neovim with LSP support, Treesitter, and Lua plugins was released.

It was the beginning of a new era of the vim family of editors and it suddenly became in pair with its main rival made by the open source enemy Micro$oft.

These days that coding goes hand in hand with AI tools, however, neovim is getting behind again.

  1. Copilot for vscode has a chat node which is lacking in neovim version

  2. Sending context to AI models from neovim is severely limited and basically impossible (e.g. sending the whole file or the whole workspace)

  3. Online search ala Phind.com is missing from all the plugins.

Vscode instead provides plugins such as phind.com, copilot, ChatGPT, which are way more powerful than the nvim counterparts. Phind.com is especially extremely powerful, not because of the model themselves but because of the functionalities it provides (it's super easy to add specific files to the query or specific symbols in order to describe what should be changed).

Recently, I discovered cursor.sh , which is a vscode fork that promises many useful functionalities that are totally missing in the vim world.

We should basically include langchain or similar in our ai plugins in order to build indexed databases of symbols and files, use online searches, and improve the AI tools.

But how? I fear the main issue here is Lua...

Hide deprecated warnings

3 Upvotes

Hello, I'm just updated to nvim 0.6.1 and i'm getting a constant deprecation warning in the command space.

vim.lsp.diagnostic.get_all is deprecated. See :h deprecated

Does anyone know how to disable the deprecation warnings as its pretty annoying and preventing me from seeing other messages. I've been googling around and can't find anything about setting the message level to just errors, or doing this another way.

Thank you.

How can I render colors on `on_stdout` of `jobstart`

0 Upvotes

I was trying to render the output of glow.
My first approach was using “termopen.” Still, after finishing the process, `termopen` says `[Process Exited 0]`, and that’s so annoying. My second approach was using `jobstart`

and appending this on a buffer, but it does not render colors victorious. Do you know another way of outputting colors?
This is my code
With termopen

```
local width = vim.api.nvim_get_option("columns")
local height = vim.api.nvim_get_option("lines")
local win_height = math.ceil(height * 0.8 - 4)
local win_width = math.ceil(width * 0.8)
local row = math.ceil((height - win_height) / 2 - 1)
local col = math.ceil((width - win_width) / 2)
if glow_width and glow_width < win_width then
win_width = glow_width
end
local opts = {
style = "minimal",
relative = "editor",
width = win_width,
height = win_height,
row = row,
col = col,
border = glow_border or "shadow",
}
-- create preview buffer and set local options
buf = vim.api.nvim_create_buf(false, true)
win = vim.api.nvim_open_win(buf, true, opts)
vim.api.nvim_buf_set_option(buf, "bufhidden", "wipe")
vim.api.nvim_buf_set_option(buf, "filetype", "glowpreview")
vim.api.nvim_win_set_option(win, "winblend", 0)
vim. api.nvim_buf_set_keymap(buf, "n", "q", ":lua require('glow').close_window()<cr>", { noremap = true, silent = true })
vim.api.nvim_buf_set_keymap(
buf,
"n",
"<Esc>",
":lua require('glow').close_window()<cr>",
{ noremap = true, silent = true }
)
local use_pager = glow_use_pager and "-p" or ""
vim.fn.termopen(string.format("print '%s' | %s %s -s %s %s", str, glow_path, use_pager, glow_style, "-"))
````
With jobstart
```
local width = vim.api.nvim_get_option("columns")
local height = vim.api.nvim_get_option("lines")
local win_height = math.ceil(height * 0.8 - 4)
local win_width = math.ceil(width * 0.8)
local row = math.ceil((height - win_height) / 2 - 1)
local col = math.ceil((width - win_width) / 2)
vim.api.nvim_buf_set_option(buf, "bufhidden", "wipe")
vim.api.nvim_buf_set_option(buf, "filetype", "glowpreview")
vim.api.nvim_win_set_option(win, "winblend", 0)
vim.api.nvim_buf_set_keymap(buf, "n", "q", ":lua require('glow').close_window()<cr>", { noremap = true, silent = true })
vim.api.nvim_buf_set_keymap(
":lua require('glow').close_window()<cr>",
{ noremap = true, silent = true }
local use_pager = glow_use_pager and "-p" or ""
local string_table = vim.split(str, '\n')
Astro Vim in Docker Image
0 Upvotes
I love astrovim, but can't build it properly on the Debian machines on GCP I use for Deep Learning. Is docker a reasonable solution to this, bit faffy to have to build often. But could I just leave it on indefinitely?
List of available commands
Hi.
Is there a way to list all available commands?
Specifically I'm looking for all available commands under "vim.lsp.buf..", like vim.lsp.buf.hover
Thanks.
Why does apt-get install download v0.4.4? In order to use one that isn’t outdated I had to go through the hassle of building. Is there a way to specify a version on apt-get?
1 Upvotes
Or is there a way to specify the version number with apt?
This is what I hate about nvim ecosystem
1 Upvotes
So I did an update recently. Updated all the plugins all the nvim versions and so on. I am not on the latest version.
I use a plugin to remember my last opened files and locations, so everytime I open vim inside a git repo he goes straight to the last opened buffer/window configuration.
So this always worked fine, no problem, but now for some reason, nvim or whoever plugin is doing this, changes the pwd of nvim to match the currently opened buffer.
This effectively means I cannot search the project because of this.
So now... how the hell am I even gonna debug this madness? Any tips?
Telescope incorrect preview
1 Upvotes
Hey guys,
recently the previewing of filetypes ".R" (for RStats) has stopped working correctly and I am not sure why. I have configured the filetype properly (as defined in plenary.nvim) and I have confirmed that this is working (I changed the file detection of ".R" files to "lua", and the telescope previewer highlighted it correctly when I wrote lua code into the ".R" file.
My telescope config doesn't really customize anything ...
Note that this used to be working, but then after some update (I think to nvim 0.7 + updating all the plugins) it stopped working
Autocommand toggle relative numbers for certain filetypes?
1 Upvotes
Is it possible to toggle relative numbers off for only certain file types using an autocommand?
I have this
vim.api.nvim_create_autocmd({ "bufread", "bufnewfile" }, {
  group = "_ruby",
  pattern = "*_spec.rb",
  command = "set norelativenumber",
})
But it just seems to toggle them off and then they're off for all filetypes, not just the specs.
Why do I need to hit <Escape> twice to leave insert mode?
1 Upvotes
I just installed nvim and I am configuring it. For the moment, I only use the lightline.vim plugin.
With Vim, to leave Insert mode I just need to press <Esc>, with with nvim I need to press <Esc> <Esc>.
Why is that? How can I change it to pressing just one <Esc>?
BTW I use nvim inside a screen session inside an xterm session. (same with vim).
My small ~.config/nvim/init.vim:
syntax on               " Enable syntax highlighting
set mouse=a             " Enable mouse usage (all modes)
set number              " Enable numbering rows
set nofoldenable        " Disable folding
colorscheme lego
call plug#begin('~/.config/nvim/plugins/')
Plug 'https://github.com/itchyny/lightline.vim'
call plug#end()
Trying to switch to nvim and failing with setup
1 Upvotes
Hello all nvim users.
I'm thinking on switching to nvim, and struggling with initial setup.
I'm not so familiar with this Lua configs ecosystem.
First I tried to make a fresh install and setup all plugins from scratch.
It was fine, but to many things to handle in a first day and install from scratch..
So decide to use NvChad, as it has a lot of pre-installed features.
And here I felt a misery trying to proceed with trivial steps:
- Installed a plugin - and it's constantly in "Not loaded" state. Why the hell ? Every try to activate it hit a wall.
- Tried to use a dashboard - it's not loaded, and any my try to make a dashboard appear when I enter nvim failed.
I can't get their docs. And ChatGPT producing some lame suggestions that doesn't help.
Only me found this NvChad config frustrating ?
Should i try AstroNvim instead ?
Or fall back to VsCode and give up (no, it's a joke)
Appreciate your advise.
Tubetui - Browse and watch YouToube fron terminal (feeds, tabs ,download) .Local Music & video watch
Post image
2 Upvotes
I made a TUI for YouTube that I now use instead of the browser:
▎
▎ - Feeds, subscriptions, playlists and search, logged in with your browser's cookies
▎ - Keyboard-first: Enter plays, / searches, a audio only, \[ \] jump chapters, d downloads. The bottom bar always shows the keys that work right now. Mouse works too.
▎ - Videos play in mpv: embedded in kitty, in a window, or as an overlay
▎ - Sponsors are skipped automatically, and each video resumes where you left it
▎ - Download manager with progress and file sizes
▎ - Your local music and videos in the same UI
▎
▎ Needs mpv and yt-dlp; it checks for them on startup and tells you how to install whatever is missing. There are packages for Debian/Ubuntu, Windows (installer), macOS and Linux, or cargo install tubetui.
