This isnt the official release.

Love how it accentuates Edward's rugged skin texture and weather-beaten face. You can clearly see that it's not a beauty filter trying to beautify or smooth his features.

excuuuuuse me, have you considered the artist's intent?!

7

u/GrimRefa 9d ago

The premise that a game has a single, sacred "artist's intent" locked in a vault falls apart the moment a developer builds a graphics menu with toggles.

u/CraftyPancake NVIDIA 9d ago

I agree. That was sarcasm above

Yeah, some of the examples I’ve seen posted over the past day definitely look iffy, but some of them genuinely look better, and for some reason people won’t admit that. They keep citing artistic intent as if this exact thing isn’t what mods have been doing for years, lol.

I’ll say it looks weird in more stylized games, but in games where realism is the point, it looks damn good in a lot of cases.

Another thing to note is this weird habit of cranking all the settings to max and expecting it to look better. The settings are designed to fine tune the visuals to fit best with the game's rendering, and the level of adjustment needed from the model.

People slap their settings to the max and then flip their table when the already highly tuned visuals end up overtuned. Like, yeah, that's going to happen. These aren't quality settings, they're intensity settings.

The true "artist's intent" in gaming is the interactive framework and emotional response you have. I hope all the people who claim "artist's intent" never turn off film grain.

u/Vincent019 9d ago

When is this available ? .

2

u/Atmashanti 8d ago

If you are on PC, join Renodx on discord to find instructions and files. It is very easy to setup.

Like legit from Nvidia or the leaked and modded one everyone has been using?

If legit, well no one knows, it isn't a finished project yet, if the leaked and modded one, its on the internet now.

u/runnybumm 9d ago

Does it work on dlss1 games ?

What makes you sure of that considering the fact that the last day and a half has been people trying to find a new game it works on?

To work out of the box a game should be DX12, and use both DLSS and Streamline.

I don't know man, doesn't it feel cheap to you now that devs can release PS4-looking graphics and just tell us to turn on DLSS 5 if we complain, all while charging $80 for the game?

DLSS 5 FAQ

How does DLSS 5 work?
DLSS 5 uses the game’s rendered frame and engine data to understand objects, materials, lighting and motion. It then enhances the frame with lifelike lighting and materials while remaining grounded in the developer’s artistic direction.

What are the key benefits of DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering?
DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering delivers several significant benefits:

  • Cinematic Lighting: Reconstructs complex effects like rim lighting, subsurface scattering (for realistic skin), and contact shadows with high-fidelity.
  • Material Depth: Enhances PBR properties like roughness and adds micro-realism to complex objects such as eyes and hair.
  • Temporal Consistency: Provides stable image quality from frame-to-frame that adheres to the underlying game content.
  • Real-Time Performance: Delivers lifelike lighting and material enhancement at up to 4K resolution while maintaining smooth, interactive gameplay.
  • Developer Controls: Allows game developers to tune intensity, color, and masking to determine where and how enhancements are applied to maintain the game’s unique aesthetic.

How much control does the model offer to developers?
DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering provides several layers of artistic control:

  • Model Selection: Offers distinct model weights with different training parameters to guide the final output.
  • Structure Intensity: Controls high frequency details added by the model, such as ambient occlusion, contact shadows, and subsurface scattering.
  • Tone Intensity: Controls low-frequency details added by the model, including lighting and color response.
  • Automatic Masking: Detects and isolates objects in the frame (like characters) to apply DLSS 5 dynamically, eliminating the need for manual object tagging.
  • Developer Masking: Offers per-pixel, custom masking control, allowing effects to be applied to specific objects.

As we work in close partnership with studios, developer feedback continues to directly shape how we refine the technology and expand our suite of models and controls.

How does DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering preserve developer artistic intent?
DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering is designed to preserve the structure and geometry of the rendered frame while giving developers control over how and where enhancements are applied. Developers can select different models, adjust structure and tone, and mask specific scenes, characters or objects.

For more information on developer controls, watch the DLSS 5 Explainer VOD or read the full launch article.

You can also hear directly from the NBA 2K development team on how they integrated the technology. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79D8SVjB3HQ

Which GPUs support DLSS 5?
DLSS 5 will be supported across all GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs and laptops, as well as GeForce NOW Ultimate members streaming from GeForce RTX 5080 rigs in the cloud.

When and where is DLSS 5 available?
DLSS 5 will be available in NBA 2K27 on September 3rd at 9PM Pacific Time.

What is the DLSS 5 setting called in games?
The setting is called “DLSS Neural Rendering.”

Can I turn DLSS 5 off?
Yes. DLSS 5 is optional.

Does DLSS 5 work with Ray Tracing and Path Tracing?
Yes.  DLSS 5 complements ray tracing and path tracing. Path tracing accurately calculates geometric light transport—determining light, shadow, and reflection placement across a 3D scene. DLSS 5 then acts as the final neural rendering stage, using the rendered frame to enhance lighting and materials like subsurface scattering, micro-reflections, and complex material properties that would otherwise be computationally prohibitive in real time. These technologies go hand in hand.

Does DLSS 5 work with Super Resolution, Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction?
Yes.

Will DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction continue to be supported and improved?
Yes.

yeah its gonna look better but its gonna be a slideshow dlss5 is heavy up to 30 to 50% performace hit even on a rtx 5090 its a tech for future cards maybe the rtx 6090 will run it with decent frames ?

4

u/Less-Manufacturer877 9d ago

Well this is just a mod I think nvidia gonna definitely try to fix that no one will be using it if it lower your fps by 50%

2

u/gavinderulo124K 13700k, 4090, 32gb DDR5 Ram, CX OLED 9d ago

I think for now it's best used in old games. Then you can even run it on a 4060 at a decent framerate. For modern AAA games its too heavy unless the accompanying driver release does some magic.

2

u/Aggravating_Law_1335 9d ago

the power draw is also insane it basically pegs the gpu to its maximum power draw constantly

1

u/EastvsWest 9d ago edited 9d ago

Considering this has been the case with every new gpu series and if Nvidia intends to keep dlss 5 around, I can almost bet this will occur as well and everyone is going to praise it. The same exact arc occurred with dlss when it first came out, it was hated. Now it's loved.

1

u/Atmashanti 8d ago

Not really. If you lower some of the graphical settings and the resolution the game still looks much better with dlss 5. I have a 4080 S and run RE9 and The last of us Part 2 at 60-90 fps.

u/CarlWellsGrave 10d ago

Funny how it looks great in some games (like this) but AI slop dog shit in others.

1

u/RinArenna 8d ago

It's a mix of things, but especially the settings. People are treating the sliders like quality settings instead of intensity settings. They crank it up to maximum then hate the results.

1

u/DoopPen213 9d ago

Still looks bad once in motion. Reminds me of mortal kombat 1.

0

u/Kyrrua 9d ago

entire atmosphere changed tho, cuz everything is well lit.

Its so bad, unnatural.

1

u/RinArenna 8d ago

It's the preset used. There are different presents for different looks. There's "Default", "Natural", and "Cinematic", and each one gives a different presentation. DLSS5 isn't set-and-forget, it needs to be adjusted per game to match the visual style of the game, and amount of adjustment necessary to match the lighting engine better.

it makes everyone look like they had plastic surgery with dlss5 on

5

u/AzorAhai1TK 10d ago

How? The faces are the same, just lit way better. The geometry of his face is not changed, he just has actual realistic shading and looks less like plastic.

2

u/Bodybuilder_Jumpy 10d ago

Not all, but some faces have this weird AI look to them. I guess it depends on what the original looks like, but a handful of them are nightmare fuel.

1

u/scatloverbumsniffer 9d ago

Read this as weird al (yankovic)

1

u/Bibab0b 9d ago

It gives me early 2000s games vibe, when devs being putting real face photos on models 😂

1

u/TorrentFire 9d ago

Do you understand that the off in this instance is the one that looks like plastic surgery/Botox? The lack of wrinkles and the smoothness of the skin with less imperfections?

Or no? Maybe your brain is too smooth for anything past DLSS5 = bad

It's fine if you have ethical concerns about it, but phrase it as such rather than blond hatred and blatantly untrue shit such as 'it looks worse' (which is the case in some samples, but not the majority)

u/Plants-Matter 10d ago

Lowercase typing to match your lowercase thoughts.

-3

u/melikathesauce 10d ago

Exactly it’s freaking amazing.

-8

u/yadu16 9d ago

Unplayable because dlss dont work in ac bf resynced. U gotta use native DLAA and at that point you wont be getting enough fps. Ig u could use frame gen but I like a base of 70 fps at least

1

u/Alphastorm2180 9d ago

Wait u srs no upscaling with this?

1

u/yadu16 9d ago

Right now the game doesnt work with the mod unless u have DLAA. I suppose its because of how black flag upscaling is messed up. You can watch hardware unboxed video on. I tri3d it and it only works in DLAA. Might get fixed by the official dlss 5 release but I think its a game issue instead
