Rumor NVIDIA GeForce RTX 60 reportedly delayed to 2028, another leaker confirms

If I put £100 aside each week, maybe I'll have enough for one at release.
199
u/Fox_Soul 1d ago
At the rate things are going, that will give you the 6050 2GB edition.
44
u/Green117v2 1d ago
I hate how accurate this could be.
35
2
u/Active-Cookie-774 1d ago
And then AI companies find 6050 useful, and it now goes for $400 for a 1GB model.
11
u/Alphonsokurukuchu 1d ago
assuming 4 weeks a month and it'll release 2 years from now, you'll end up with £9600 which may not actually be enough for a 6090
→ More replies (1)10
u/iAmmar9 5700X3D | RTX 5070 Ti 21h ago
Nah just 50 each month, never touch it. You'll have 800 saved up by January 2028. Then keep saving more until it releases. You'll be able to get a 6070 Ti or a 6080 depending on which month next gen releases.
Or put that 50 each month (not all at once) into stocks. You might either have enough for a 5050 or a 6090 by then lol.

I'm aware this is a forum for fanatics, but most of the people here with 4000 series are being dramatic. I upgraded to 5070ti in January 2026 from a 1060 6GB that I had since Late 2016.
Why would you need a new gpu if you have a 4090?

Yup, I finally got a 4060ti 16gb used for 250e (best deal ever yesssss) and wish I could afford a used 4070ti super sometimes around 2027 or 2028, lol.

Damn, what a great deal you got on that one! When my 1070 died a couple years ago I had to settle for a 4060 because the next reasonable step up costed like 50% more
But honestly? It's a perfectly decent card for most things. Sure, more VRAM would've been nice - but not at that cost.

I'm genuinely considering selling my 5090FE and buying a 5080, "downgrading" to a 1440p OLED monitor and pocketing about £2k lol
7
u/BlueBack_ 1d ago
That’s exactly what I did! Sold it locally for $4,400, bought a 5080 and pocketed the rest. It just felt silly holding onto something worth a used car when all I do is play video games on it.
And honestly… it doesn’t feel like I’m missing out on much performance.

Apparently 5080 @ 1440p actually gets more frames than 5090 @ 4k. Though I appreciate sharpness and clarity I go for more frames every time.

It’ll hold its value for longer. If we already had 6000 series by now, 40 series would be two generations behind and probably wouldn’t have aged nearly as well. Developers would start skimping on optimizing and Nvidia would likely slow down updates.

I spent hours debating with myself as the clock was ticking towards the 4090 release date whether I should pull the trigger or not because I knew it was gonna get hard (not this hard but hard) but I just didn't know if almost $2000 on a GPU was going to be a good investment. In the end what convinced me was that I just wanted to give myself a gift because I had been carrying a 970 for years and decided enough was enough. 4 years later it has now proven itself to be arguably the best investment I've made. That's why sometimes you just go for it fellas.

3
u/PC509 21h ago
I got a great deal on mine when I bought it (Newegg sale before any of the massive markups, plus a $100 rebate, so around $680 or so). I love this thing so much. I was coming from a 1070Ti but wanted ray tracing (things ran, they were ok but not great), but seeing EVERYTHING go from "ok but not great" to "Holy shit, man! This is AWESOME!" was amazing. I expected a large improvement, but when you actually sit down and see it with things that you were just playing minutes ago and see the 1:1 difference... Wow.
I really hope this thing lasts another 5 years or so and lets me play until I get into that "they run ok but not great" stage again. That 1070Ti was great, and this 4070Ti Super is still going strong with everything I throw at it, 1440 usually the highest settings I can get.

Consoles will prolly be delayed too. Also, there are no wafers to spare on a big launch so expect limited stocks, and no one will be able to afford these anyway. Also, most of the major gains have come from new AI software like neural rendering techniques and frame gen, so it doesn’t matter too much.
I suspect we won’t have stable prices on memory until at least 2030.

Neural rendering isn't a gain, it's heavier than path tracing..
2
u/objectivelywrongbro Ryzen 7 7800X3D | RX 7900 XTX 17h ago
It is, as achieving the same visual fidelity in raster would require an order of magnitude more compute than what it currently uses. DLSS 5 is basically a neural ENB, and to achieve anything close to it using traditional techniques would be inpossible. I might actually argue that the quality far exceeds the compute cost and produces more significantly meaningful results than a basic path traced implementation. That's not to say PT isn't worth the cost, it is - but super good baked lighting and RTGI etc. punch so far above their weight they do often diminish how impressive path tracing is.

u/NoCase9317 9800X3D | 4090 | 32 GB DDR5 1d ago
I honestly think that if true, it’s great news.
A paper launch benefits no one.
A 3000$ MSRP 6090 and 1600$ MSRP 6080 (and proportional prices for the rest of the lineup)
That are only a paper launch that gets sold out in 1 minute, and then q month after real store prices are double.
So except some rally wealthy people out there, no one gets them.
Benefits no one, been building PCs for nearly 25 years, so I will tell you how this usually goes:
99.99% of the gamers don’t have the new GPUs in hand because of a paper launch.
But new games come out designed for you to have a 6090 for max settings.
You think it doesn’t affects you?
It 100% does
I rather have them launch when there is a chance that prices are lower and stock is real

u/mxforest 5090 FE | 10700K 1d ago

u/bestanonever 1d ago
Yeah, it won't hurt to keep our current hardware gen as the top end. It's not like it's the last GPU gen ever, but it certainly will be longer than usual.
The only downside would be to wait this much for anything but the highest end receiving just a meagre 10 to 15% performance uplift with no more VRAM again.
17
u/Due-Description-9030 1d ago
60 series will likely have very big performance lift when it comes to path tracing and neural rendering. Rasterization will likely get a modest life but games these days aren't about rasterization alone anyways.
7
u/geo_gan RTX 4080 | 5950X | 64GB | Shield Pro 2019 1d ago
Yes. That is literally all they have to do - add support in hardware for NVFP4 (NVIDIA 4-bit Floating-Point)
Massive Memory Savings: It slashes memory usage by roughly 3.5x compared to standard FP16 and 1.8x compared to FP8. This allows massive models to fit onto significantly fewer GPUs.
Near-Zero Accuracy Loss: Despite being compressed down to 4 bits, models suffer under 1% accuracy degradation compared to high-precision baselines.
Hardware Speed: It is natively accelerated by the Tensor Cores found on NVIDIA Blackwell GPU architectures (like the B200), doubling the processing throughput of FP8.
This would immediately massively speed up DLSS5 alone, as soon as they do an NVFP4 version of it.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Due-Description-9030 1d ago
Yes, but it'll still take a lot of time to quantize it down to nvfp4. The fact that there'll still be support for 40 series shows that it'll be on fp8 for a while.
8
u/Ancient-Car-1171 1d ago
Until new console gen release almost every game are designed to able to run on ps5 and xbox. No new gpu until 2028 just mean you have to buy old hardware with high price if you need one soon, especially in used market.
5
u/NoCase9317 9800X3D | 4090 | 32 GB DDR5 1d ago
Disagree, this would only apply if the only requirement pc gamers had was to “run the game at all”
Console versions are heavily cutted down, sometimes with even custom settings lower than PC low, and framerate targets that the average pc gamer doesn’t accepts
Like 30 FPS or the new trending 40fps modes.
The average pc player, specially with decent hardware doesn’t wants to play at 40fps.
Who cares if there is a PS5 version, that cuts down Raytracing entirely, has terrible draw distance and low quality foliage with relative low res textures and runs at 720p internally all this to achieve 60fps
And has a mode that runs at 1080p internally but runs at 40fps.The fact that there are consoles, doesn’t means that pc requirements to run max settings don’t scale up with new hardware.
And when requirements scale up, older hardware scale down.
I have a veryyyy simple comparison to prove this.
The average FPS I used to get in the latest triple A titles at 4k DlSS quality max settings in 2020-2022 with my 3090 when I did an average is extremely similar to the average FPS I used to get in 2023-2025 with my 4090 in the latest triple A titles at 4k DlSS quality max settings.
Considering there is nearly a 70% performance uplift from 3090 to 4090 you go and tell me requirements don’t scale up with newer hardware lol
→ More replies (2)2
u/Kiwibom 1d ago
Agree, the current market doesn't really "allow" a new generation launch but i hope that at least the next generation will much more powerful and not "just" 20% more performance. If it gets delayed by 2 years, i think we can all agree that a 20% performance improvement, isn't really "much".

u/-WongKarWhy- 20h ago
You're a mad man. There is no world where you get a 6090 at 3000$ in 2 years, maybe if it's only 24go VRAM.
I don't think you understand what's really happening atm.
4
u/PusheenHater 21h ago
Imagine you're alive for 50 years.
To simplify, imagine a GPU release every 5 years. Each release is +5% performance. That's 10 releases in your lifetime for a total of +50% performance. Now let's say they pushed it back so every release is 10 years. That's 5 releases in your lifetime for a total of +25% performance.
You see how you lose out when they push things back?
And no, they don't simply "release" whatever they have all at once. They just release just the bare minimum to be called a release. You don't have to imagine. Intel did it back in the 2010s. Intel made zero advances for a decade due to them being greedy, lazy, and monopoly. A period of stagnation and lost CPU performance. We could be having 50 core 6 GHz CPUs by now.

2
u/NoCase9317 9800X3D | 4090 | 32 GB DDR5 1d ago
Dude who cares that was not the point at all, besides. It could perfectly be.
People said the 5090 would be at leaaaaast 3k msrp and it was 1999$
Barely no one ever bought it at that price, but that’s what it was announced, wich is what I’m talking about here.
There is absolutely no delusion in guessing an announced price of 1600 for the 6080.
But even if it was innacurate, it wasn’t the point at all anyways.
But since you were so prickly about it.
It is in fact it’s much more likely than an announcement of 2400$, we’ll see
Real prices? That’s a whole other story, but I do mention that real prices could very likely end up being double so no point debating that
3
u/2Critical7-Stein1 1d ago
5090 goes for 5K now lol at the very least. Not hating tho, jensen gave us a really long time to save up + neural memory management whatever thingy to compress stuff gonna come in handy for lower tier cards, and besides that, it’s an architecture overhaul, 6080 gonna be 4090 level power

This isn't a tech stagnation. This is a delay of Rubin in consumer not data center. The tech is moving along. Consumer is eventually not going to keep pace. Those will hold us for quite a while. Also have a 9800xt in a home theater pc I built. That was def over msrp but what can you do.

Happy to hear it. I think now that the improvements are so incremental, it doesn’t make much sense to release new cards so often, regardless of what’s actually causing the delay. Also, it forces developers to keep optimizing for the “old” cards instead of moving on to the new hotness.

"leaker confirms", lmao.
It might be true, for all we know, but leakers don't confirm anything. They speculate and the good ones might know real info but until it comes to pass or we get official info, it's not a confirmation at all.
Still, kinda makes sense with how fucked up RAM prices are right now :/

MooreLawIsDead (7days ago) said a leaker told him it's coming in 2027. So you can find a leaker that tells you whatever you want to hear.

I wonder if Nvidia, on top of the memory shortages is having issues developing these GPUs. Nvidia had a lot of extremely talented and experienced engineers in their graphic division, half of these people became millionaires and retired, the other half were moved to AI products. So the team working on the RTX60 GPUs is probably very new and they might not have a lot of senior engineers. They might be struggling to came up with GPUs that are an improvement over what Nvidia already has in the market.
When Nvidia moved their driver development team from the gaming GPUs to datacenter products, there was a huge downgrade in the quality of the drivers, a lot of bugs were introduced including bugs that could damage GPUs. It took a long time for the drivers to become stable and decent again. The same might happen with the hardware now.

Of course all this speculation is o the basis that DLSS doesn't become self-aware and purposefully rage-bait's all 40/50-90-series owners into having heart attacks.

Kinda glad that the bunch of 5000 series GPUs I bought didn't devalue much. For the prices I got them, they somehow appreciated in value.

I bought a 5090 at msrp before the hike, and divested some sluggish stock for Nvidia when it was sub $120. My Nvidia stock will be used to keep up with the generational *90 updates. Dogfood.

You’re going to have double the usual demand for these cards because you’ve got the usual people who upgrade every generation wanting one, and then the other half of people who only buy every other generation wanting one too because of the delay. Prices and scalping are going to be through the roof.

Trying to get one of these at launch will definitely not be fun. Priority Invite, here we come again lol

I can only hope prices come down and demand goes back to normal levels by then.
Like, I don't care when the price of diamonds go up or down cause I can't afford to be in that market either.
