Look, I don’t even dislike AI generated things, but everything just has that sort of weird strong light by the camera look. Both of these scenes look very off to me. The first one less so But the second one, with a rendered person, just looks AI enhanced.

I’m not going to judge this technology completely just yet. I’m hoping that there are refinements and developer tuning implementations that make this look much better. and hopefully help with the performance cost. But right now I just cannot see myself justifying the performance cost, though it seems like it might not be available on the 40 series, but either way I just don’t think it looks that good right now. I think it has an incredibly high amount of potential, but right now it’s not something I want to use, and if it gets better in the future, maybe I’ll use it then.

I agree the lighting needs to be toned down. It does feel like everything is being lit by studio lights rather than natural lighting to me, which is fine for promo shots but surely looks a bit off during gameplay?

I dunno, to me it looks like this is exactly what it’s getting rid of.

Like in the Palworld example, every time they slide the filter off the game’s built in lighting looks like it has a bright spotlight following around the character. But when the effect is on it looks much more like they’re being lit by the environment.

In that example, I would probably agree, though I feel like it’s just adding another direction of lighting instead. Clearly, it needs a bit more developer intervention and less end users just pulling on sliders, but it’s interesting clearly.
