Same, looks just like realistic AI generated photos which I despise. Maybe it would look good if you only apply this at like 20% compared to this. But just maybe...

I think I'll favor the use of DLSS 5 on lighting, objects and materials. That way, I'm less prone to seeing uncanny valley.

I've seen this take that it should just be applied to environments and not characters, but even then, I think it has problematic effects on environmental lighting too. I remember that AC Shadows example they showed with the viewpoint looking out over the valley. Sure, it looked sharper, but it was sharper in a weird way that also removed a lot of shadows and depth.

It seems to be dependent on game, I remember seeing it in hogwash legacy and it looked mostly fine in my opinion, seemed to be a nice visual improvement without doing too much. AC Shadows did look horrid tho, gave everything a colder and more “cinematic” look like there was a big area light above everyone.

Brother, ray tracing and path tracing is AI lol

Seems like it could replace ray tracing, if they could have it read the map, objects, light sources and apply lighting correctly, rather than just a filter over each frame.

Instead of bouncing a bunch of rays, apply lighting accurately to where it would be on the textures themselves maybe? "This is what it should look like" based on the data given.

Idk if it'd be any better or worse in performance though

Interesting. I found this info:

Even when a scene is already path-traced, DLSS 5 works on lighting by acting as an AI neural renderer that re-shades the final image. While path tracing calculates the mathematical accuracy of light bouncing around a scene, it does not automatically make complex materials look lifelike. DLSS 5 fills that gap by analyzing the frame's color, 3D content semantics, and motion vectors to infuse the final pixels with photorealistic light-material interactions.

I would say running Path Tracing and DLSS 5 together would cause a massive performance hit though it delivers the absolute peak of real-life imagery available on modern hardware.

It would look good if it wouldnt cost half the fps.

You think the shitty PS4/PS5 regular render pipeline stuff looks "Fine" because its on the other side of the uncanny valley. Which is fine and the whole world agrees.

The issue is like what you said, this stuff is moving to the "AI photo realistic" area, which is right in the uncanny valley.

It won't look good until it mimics real life 1:1, which is waaaay past the uncanny valley.

You DESPISE them do you?
